Meenakshisundaram Ramasamy Viswanathan (1 July 1945 – 22 March 2020), best known by his stage name Visu, was an Indian writer, director, stage, film and television actor and talk-show host. Visu initially worked as an assistant to director K. Balachander until becoming a director himself. He later began acting, with his first film being ''Kudumbam Oru Kadambam'' (1981), directed by S. P. Muthuraman. Career He started his career as a theatre artist, working with Y. G. Parthasarathy's drama troupe. He was writing scripts for stage dramas before getting into the film industry as an assistant to legendary director K. Balachander. During his time with Balachander, he wrote screenplays for numerous films including ''Pattina Pravesam'' (1977), ''Avan Aval Adhu'' (1980), ''Thillu Mullu'' (1981) and ''Netrikkan'' (1981). Samsaram Adhu Minsaram
''Samsaram Adhu Minsaram'' () is a 1986 Indian Tamil-language drama film produced by AVM Productions, and written and directed by Visu. He also stars as part of an ensemble cast including Lakshmi, Chandrasekhar, Kishmu, Raghuvaran, Delhi Ganesh, Ilavarasi, Manorama, Madhuri, Kamala Kamesh, Dilip and Haja Sheriff. The film revolves around the splintering of a joint family, and the efforts made by the patriarch's eldest daughter-in-law to reunite them. The story of ''Samsaram Adhu Minsaram'' was inspired by Visu's play ''Uravukku Kai Koduppom'', which had already been adapted into a 1975 film. Despite the failure of that film, producer M. Saravanan liked the story, so it was reinvented into ''Samsaram Adhu Minsaram''. The film was made on a then shoestring budget of ₹1.5 million, and the whole crew worked for 35 days. ''Manal Kayiru'' () is a 1982 Indian Tamil-language comedy drama film written and directed by Visu in his directorial debut. The film stars S. Ve. Shekher and Shanthi Krishna, with Visu, Manorama, Kishmu and Kuriakose Ranga portraying supporting roles. It is based on Visu's play ''Modi Masthan''. The film was remade in Kannada as ''Savira Sullu'', in Telugu as ''Pelli Chesi Chupistham'' and in Malayalam as ''Thiruthalvaadi'' (with the ending changed). Plot Uma works as a senior employee in a company. Namachivayam who works as a cashier in the same company falls in love with her. ''Dowry Kalyanam'' () is a 1983 Indian Tamil-language black comedy film, directed by Visu and produced by S. Suseela. The film stars Visu, Vijayakanth, Srividya, S. Ve. Shekher and Viji. It is based on Visu's play ''Dowry Kalyana Vaibhogame''. The film was released on 31 May 1983. Plot Ganeshan and Ethiraj are best friends and colleagues. Ethiraj is a widower and an alcoholic while Ganeshan is married and has a sister and a brother. Ganeshan does not earn enough and borrows from Ethiraj and Rowthar, a Muslim man who runs a grocery shop, frequently.
