The Virtual University of the State of São Paulo (in Portuguese language, Portuguese: Universidade Virtual do Estado de São Paulo, UNIVESP) is a public university in the state of São Paulo (state), São Paulo, Brazil, designed to offer Distance education, semipresencial courses for the whole state. It is the first virtual public university in Brazil. UNIVESP was founded under the Geraldo Alckmin, Geraldo Alckmin government in 2012 and is linked to the São Paulo state government's Secretariat for Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation. Geraldo José Rodrigues Alckmin Filho (; born 7 November 1952) is a Brazilian politician who is the vice president-elect of Brazil. He previously served as the Governor of São Paulo from 2001 to 2006, and then again from 2011 to 2018, the longest term served in that state since the end of the Military dictatorship in Brazil.
