Virklund
Virklund is a village in Denmark, located about south of Silkeborg, to which it functions as a satellite city. It has a population of 3,683 (1 January 2023). Virklund is located in Silkeborg Municipality and therefore is part of the Central Denmark Region. Geography Virklund is surrounded by the Silkeborg Forests. Between Silkeborg and Virklund is Silkeborg Western Forest, whose southern end is adjacent to Thorsø Lake. Towards the southern part of Thorsø is Rustrup Forest. East of Virklund is the large Sønderskov Forest. Thorsø Lake has a length of three km, and in 2006 a trail was built around the lake with a length. At the eastern end of the lake, which faces the town itself, there are several places where one has access to swim in the lake. Between 1944 and 1955, there was a ski jumping hill at Duedal Bjerg, located south of Thorsø Lake, where several events were arranged. Rasmus Carstensen (born 10 November 2000) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a right-back for German club 1. FC Köln on loan from Belgian Pro League club Genk. Club career Silkeborg Born in Virklund, 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) south of Silkeborg, Central Jutland, Carstensen initially played youth football at local club Virklund IF, before moving to the Silkeborg IF youth academy at age 13. After practicing with the first team, he signed a one-year contract on 6 February 2019, and made his debut on 20 March at the age of 19 in a 2–0 away loss to Lyngby Boldklub in the second-tier Danish 1st Division. Asger Sørensen
Asger Sørensen (born 5 June 1996) is a Danish professional footballer who currently plays for Czech First League club Sparta Prague. His former clubs include FC Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg, SSV Jahn Regensburg and 1. FC Nürnberg. Club career A defender, Sørensen began his career at the lower levels at Virklund Boldklub before moving to Silkeborg IF, before finally signing with the FC Midtjylland youth academy. Silkeborg Municipality
Silkeborg municipality is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Midtjylland on the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 857.16 km², and has a population of 89,707 (1 April 2014). Its mayor is Steen Vindum, of the party Venstre. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Silkeborg. Ski Jumping Hill
A ski jumping hill is a sports venue used for ski jumping. They vary in size from temporary handmade snow structures to permanent competition venues. At the top is an in-run where the jumper runs down to generate sufficient speed, before reaching the jump. The skier is then airborne until landing on the landing slope. The last part of the hill is the out-run, which may be either flat or even uphill, allowing the jumper to stop. The steepest point of the hill is the construction point, which is used to determine the score of a particular length. The size of a hill is measured in the hill size. Silkeborg Forests
Silkeborg Forests is Denmark’s largest forest. It comprises a collection of several independent private and public woodlands, that have been allowed to merge into a single connected forest south of the city of Silkeborg. At 22,400 ha, it is Denmark's largest forest since 2004, after Rold Skov, and it is located within the largest forest district in the country as well. The forests forms an important part of the larger regional landscape known as Søhøjlandet. Silkeborg Forests are named after the city of Silkeborg, situated in the northern outskirts and the forest is naturally divided into a north, west, east and south section, known as Nordskoven, Vesterskoven, Østerskoven and Sønderskoven respectively. Central Denmark Region
The Central Denmark Region ( da, Region Midtjylland), or more directly translated as the Central Jutland Region and sometimes simply Mid Jutland, is an administrative region of Denmark established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish municipal reform. The reform abolished the traditional counties (''amter'') and replaced them with five new administrative regions. At the same time, smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, cutting the total number of municipalities from 271 to 98. The reform diminished the power of the regional level dramatically in favour of the local level and the national government in Copenhagen. The Central Denmark Region comprises 19 municipalities. Satellite cities or satellite towns are smaller municipalities that are adjacent to a principal city which is the core of a metropolitan area.
