Virginia State Route 158
State Route 158 (SR 158) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. Known for most of its length as Front Street, the state highway runs from U.S. Route 58 Alternate (US 58 Alternate) in Coeburn east to US 58 Alternate east of Coeburn. SR 158 comprises much of the old alignment of US 58 Alternate through Coeburn in eastern Wise County. Route description SR 158 begins at a right-in/right-out interchange with westbound US 58 Alternate (Norton Coeburn Road) in the town of Coeburn. The state highway heads east as Front Street to its intersection with SR 72 (Laurel Avenue) and SR 813 (2nd Street); the latter street connects SR 158 and eastbound US 58 Alternate. SR 158 and SR 72 run concurrently through a grade crossing of a rail spur from Norfolk Southern Railway's Clinch Valley District and enter downtown Coeburn. U.S. Route 258 (US 258) is a spur of US 58 in the U.S. states of North Carolina and Virginia. The U.S. Highway runs from US 17 Business and NC 24 Business in Jacksonville, North Carolina north to Virginia State Route 143 (SR 143) at Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia. In North Carolina, US 258 connects Jacksonville with the Inner Banks communities of Kinston, Snow Hill, Farmville, Tarboro, and Murfreesboro. The U.S. Highway continues through the Virginia city of Franklin, where the highway intersects US 58, and the town of Smithfield on its way to the Hampton Roads metropolitan area. US 258 crosses the James River on the James River Bridge and follows Mercury Boulevard through Newport News and Hampton. The following is a list of former primary state highways completely or mostly within the Staunton District (VDOT District 8) of the U.S. state of Virginia. SR 59 State Route 59 connected West Virginia Route 59 to Woodstock, continuing east about to near Mine Mountain Road in the George Washington National Forest, across Woodstock Gap from Fort Valley. The route is now unpaved SR 691 from the West Virginia state line to Liberty Furnace, then SR 717 and SR 675 to Columbia Furnace, SR 623 and SR 768 (old alignment of SR 42) at Columbia Furnace, SR 42 to Woodstock, and Court Street and SR 758 to the east end. The following is a list of former primary state highways completely or mostly within the Lynchburg District (VDOT District 3) of the U.S. state of Virginia. SR 126 (1928-1944) State Route 126 was a westerly alternate to US 501 between Volens and Gladys, following present SR 603 from Volens to SR 40 at Cody and SR 761 (mostly the old Pittsylvania and Lynchburg Turnpike) from the Roanoke River south of Long Island to Gladys. The road from Cody to Long Island was never a primary state highway. Coeburn is a town in Wise County, Virginia, United States, along the Guest River. The population was 2,139 at the 2010 census. History The Town of Coeburn was originally named Guest Station after explorer and surveyor Christopher Gist. Gist writes about the area of Coeburn in his trip journals of making camp in the area with his son, Tom. Incorporated in 1894, the Town changed its name from Guest Station to Coeburn after W. W. Wise County, Virginia
Wise County is a county located in the U.S. state of Virginia. The county was formed in 1856 from Lee, Scott, and Russell Counties and named for Henry A. Wise, who was the Governor of Virginia at the time. History The Cherokee conquered the area including Wise from the Xualae between 1671 and 1685. It was later contested by the Six Nations and the Shawnee. Right-in/right-out (RIRO) and left-in/left-out (LILO) refer to a type of three-way road intersection where turning movements of vehicles are restricted. A RIRO permits only right turns and a LILO permits only left turns. "Right-in" and "left-in" refer to turns from a main road ''into'' an intersection (or a driveway or parcel); "right-out" and "left-out" refer to turns ''from'' an intersection (or a driveway or parcel) to a main road. Virginia State Route 72
State Route 72 (SR 72) is a primary state highway in the southwest part of the U.S. state of Virginia. It runs from SR 71 in Gate City north to SR 65 at Fort Blackmore, northeast with SR 65 to Dungannon, and north via Coeburn to SR 83 near Clintwood. Route description SR 72 begins at SR 71 in Slabtown, east of downtown Gate City. The intersection of the two routes lies on the town limits of Gate City. It heads north across the Moccasin Ridge via some small creek valleys and crosses Copper Creek at Williams Mill. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing.
