Virginia House Of Delegates
The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. The House shares legislative power with the Senate of Virginia, the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. Winchester is the most north western independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is the county seat of Frederick County, although the two are separate jurisdictions. Warren County is a U.S. county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The 2020 census places Warren County within the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area with a population of 40,727. The county seat is Front Royal. History By 1672 the entire Shenandoah Valley was claimed for hunting by the Iroquois Confederation following the Beaver Wars. Some bands of the Shawnee settled in the area as client groups to the Iroquois and alternately to the Cherokee after 1721. Bill Wiley
William D. Wiley (born 1971) is an American politician and member of the Republican Party. In 2020 he was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. He represents the 32nd district, comprising the city of Winchester, and parts of Warren and Frederick Counties in Virginia. Before his election to the House of Delegates, Wiley spent six years on the Winchester City Council. Career After moving with his wife to Winchester, Virginia, Wiley spent several years on the city's Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission. In 2014 Wiley ran for the city council and was elected without opposition. From January 2018 onwards, Wiley was president of the city council. Wiley ran for re-election in 2018, defeating Democratic challenger Teri Merrill by a 55% to 44% margin. Beverly Jean Sherwood (born May 29, 1947) was an American politician. She has served in the Virginia House of Delegates since 1994, representing the 29th district in the Shenandoah Valley, including the city of Winchester and parts of Frederick and Warren Counties.
