Virginia's 12th House Of Delegates District
Virginia's 12th House of Delegates district elects one of the hundred Delegates of the Virginia House of Delegates, United States. Located in southwestern Virginia, 12th district represents the city of Radford, Giles County, and portions of Montgomery County and Pulaski County. The seat is currently held by Republican Jason Ballard, first elected during the 2021 election. Electoral history 2017 Hurst was elected in 2017 as part of a wave of new Democrats in the House of Delegates. He earned 54.3% of the vote, defeating three-term Republican incumbent Joseph R. Yost. Virginia House Of Delegates
The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two parts of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the List of Speakers of the Virginia House of Delegates, Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates. The Speaker is usually a member of the majority party and, as Speaker, becomes the most powerful member of the House. The House shares legislative power with the Senate of Virginia, the upper house of the Virginia General Assembly. The House of Delegates is the modern-day successor to the Virginia House of Burgesses, which first met at Jamestown, Virginia, Jamestown in 1619. Radford (formerly Lovely Mount, Central City, English Ferry and Ingle's Ferry) is an independent city in the U.S. state of Virginia. Giles County, Virginia
Giles County is a county located in the U.S. state of Virginia on the West Virginia state line. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,787. Its county seat is Pearisburg. Giles County is included in the Blacksburg- Christiansburg, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Giles County is the location of Mountain Lake, one of only two natural fresh water lakes in Virginia. Pulaski County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 33,800. Its county seat is Pulaski. Pulaski County is part of the Blacksburg– Christiansburg, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Jason Ballard
Jason Ballard is an American politician and attorney who is a member of the Virginia House of Delegates for the 12th district. Elected in November 2021, he assumed office on January 12, 2022. Education Ballard earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Concord University, a Juris Doctor from the West Virginia University College of Law, and a Master of Laws from The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School. 2021 Virginia House Of Delegates Election
The 2021 Virginia House of Delegates election for the 162nd Virginia General Assembly were held on November 2, 2021 to coincide with biennial elections in the U.S. state of Virginia. All 100 Delegates are elected to two-year terms in single-member constituencies. Primary elections took place on June 8. This election coincided with the Virginia gubernatorial, lieutenant gubernatorial, and Attorney General elections, all of which were won by Republicans. The upper house of the Virginia General Assembly, the Senate of Virginia, will hold its next election on November 7, 2023. Mary Sue Terry (born September 28, 1947) is an American Democratic politician from Virginia.
