Virginia's 10th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Senate of Virginia. The district has been represented by Democratic Party (United States), Democrat Ghazala Hashmi since 2020, following her 2019 Virginia Senate election, 2019 defeat of incumbent Republican Party (United States), Republican Glen Sturtevant. Geography District 10 is located in the Greater Richmond Region, covering much of the Richmond, Virginia, City of Richmond as well as all of Powhatan County, Virginia, Powhatan County and parts of Chesterfield County, Virginia, Chesterfield County. 2014 United States Senate Election In Virginia
The 2014 United States Senate election in Virginia was held on November 4, 2014, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the Commonwealth of Virginia, concurrently with other elections to the United States Senate, elections to the United States House of Representatives, and various state and local elections. Incumbent Democratic Senator Mark Warner ran for re-election to a second term. He was unopposed for the Democratic nomination. The Republicans nominated lobbyist and former chairman of the Republican National Committee Ed Gillespie. Also running was Libertarian nominee Robert Sarvis, an attorney and businessman. 2011 Virginia Elections
The 2011 Virginia state elections took place on November 8, 2011. All 140 seats in the Virginia General Assembly were up for re-election, as were many local offices. Virginia Senate Prior to the election, 22 seats were held by Democrats and 18 seats were held by Republicans. Redistricting caused the 13th district to be moved from Hampton Roads to Northern Virginia and the 22nd district to be moved from the Roanoke area to a district stretching from Lynchburg to Richmond. Republicans gained two seats, making the Senate tied with 20 Democrats and 20 Republicans.
