Vincent Fremont
Vincent Fremont (born 1950) is an American art magazine publishing executive, documentary director and producer, the onetime manager of Andy Warhol's studio The Factory, and a co-founder and former co-head of the Andy Warhol Foundation as was proscribed for in the famous pop Artist's will. He was both the director and co- producer of ''Pie in the Sky: The Brigid Berlin Story'' a biopic on the Warhol superstar Brigid Berlin. He was also an associate producer of the 1989 film Slaves of New York adapted from the short story collection Tama Janowitz of the same bame. In 2016 Fremont was named CEO of ARTnews. He stepped down from the executive position in 2017 but stayed on as an advisor to the company. Andy Warhol (; born Andrew Warhola Jr.; August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American visual artist, film director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising, and celebrity culture that flourished by the 1960s, and span a variety of media, including painting, silkscreening, photography, film, and sculpture. ''The Andy Warhol Diaries'' is the dictated memoirs of the American artist Andy Warhol, posthumously published. It was edited by his frequent collaborator and long-time friend, Pat Hackett. Warner Books first published it in 1989 with an introduction by Hackett. The 807-page book begins on November 24, 1976 and ends eleven years later on February 17, 1987, just five days before his death. It is a condensed version by Hackett of Warhol's more than 20,000-page diary. Tama Janowitz
Tama Janowitz (born April 12, 1956) is an American novelist and a short story writer. She is often referenced as one of the main "brat pack" authors, along with Bret Easton Ellis and Jay McInerney. Life Her parents, psychiatrist Julian Janowitz, and Phyllis Janowitz (née Winer), a literature professor at Cornell University, divorced when she was ten. She and her brother David grew up with her mother in Massachusetts, and, for two years in the late 1960s, in Israel. Janowitz graduated from Barnard College with a B.A. in 1977 and from Hollins College with an M.A. in 1979. In 1985 she received an M.F.A from the Columbia University School of the Arts. The Factory
The Factory was Andy Warhol's studio in New York City, which had four locations between 1963 and 1987. The Factory became famed for its parties in the 1960s. It was the hip hangout spot for artists, musicians, celebrities and Warhol's superstars. The original Factory was often referred to as the Silver Factory. "Slaves of New York" is a collection of short stories by Tama Janowitz. Its premise is that finding an apartment in Manhattan is so expensive and hard to do that people in the fringes of the art scene, both male and female, end up with undesirable partners simply to have a place to live. Several stories feature Eleanor, who lives with a psychologically abusive visual artist whose work is obviously derivative of cartoons. The title story was published in ''The New Yorker.'' The book was a hit and quickly became a best-seller.
