Villanova Wildcats Swimming and Diving is Villanova University's varsity swimming and diving team. The Wildcats compete in the NCAA's Big East Conference. Currently, the Wildcats are coached by Rick Simpson, assisted by Laura McGlaughlin, Todd Michael is the team's diving coach. Big East Conference
The Big East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference that competes in NCAA Division I in ten men's sports and twelve women's sports. Headquartered in New York City, the eleven full-member schools are primarily located in Northeast and Midwest metropolitan areas. The conference was officially recognized as a Division I multi-sport conference on August 1, 2013, and since then conference members have won NCAA national championships in men's basketball, women's cross country, field hockey, men's lacrosse, and men's soccer. The conference was formed after the "Catholic Seven" members of the original Big East Conference elected to split from the football-playing schools in order to start a new conference focused on basketball. The Villanova Wildcats are the athletic teams of Villanova University. They compete in the Big East (NCAA Division I) for every sport; except football and rowing where they compete in the Colonial Athletic Association (Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA). Big East Conference (1979–2013)
The Big East Conference was a collegiate athletics conference that consisted of as many as 16 universities in the eastern half of the United States from 1979 to 2013. The conference's members participated in 24 NCAA sports. The conference had a history of success at the national level in basketball throughout its history, while its shorter (1991 to 2013) football program, created by inviting one college and four other "associate members" (their football programs only) into the conference, resulted in two national championships. In basketball, Big East teams made 18 Final Four appearances and won 7 NCAA championships as Big East members through 2013 (UConn with three, Georgetown, Syracuse, Louisville and Villanova with one each). Maddy Crippen
Madeleine Marie Crippen (born July 10, 1980), also known by her married name as Madeleine Plankey, is an American former competition swimmer. Crippen represented the United States at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Career In 1997 Crippen earned a silver medal as a part of Team USA at the Pan Pacific Championship in Fukuoka, Japan. She followed that performance with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter individual medley and a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter individual medley at the 1998 World Aquatics Championships in Perth, Australia. She represented the United States at the Pan Pacific Championships in 1999 where she placed fourth in the 400-meter individual medley. Kristina Lennox-Silva
Kristina Lennox-Silva (born April 24, 1985 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida) is a female freestyle swimming, freestyle and butterfly swimming, butterfly swimmer from Puerto Rico, who was born in the United States. During her college career she swam for Villanova Swimming and Diving, Villanova University and was a multiple time Big East finalist as well earning her All-Big East status. She represented Puerto Rico at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China and 2009 World Aquatics Championships in Rome, Italy. She is the sister of Douglas Lennox-Silva, who also competed as a swimmer at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2009 World Championships. Summer Rappaport (née Cook) is an American professional triathlete. At the 2020 Summer Olympics she competed in the women's triathlon race, placing 14th. During the 2019 ITU World Triathlon Series Rappaport took fifth in the final rankings. Early life Rappaport graduated from Mountain Range High School in Westminster, Colorado in 2009 and from Villanova University in 2013, where she was a runner and a swimmer. At Villanova, Rappaport earned a degree in political science. Career In 2014, Rappaport finished 5th at the Mixed Relay Pan American Championships. In the following season, she finished 2nd at the ITU Triathlon World Cup event in Alanya. For the 2016 racing season, Rappaport won the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Series event in Edmonton.
