Villa Plinianina
Villa Plinianina is a patrician rural palace on the shores of Lake Como, located in the comune of Torno, Province of Como, region of Lombardy, Italy. The palace was named after a nearby spring identified by Pliny the Elder and a nearby Villa Pliniana (the name means "Small Pliniana"). A house on the property was built on this remote stretch by Giovanni Anguissola in 1570. Originally owned by the Caprera family, in 1839 the property was sold to countess Alessandrina de Mondran, wife of Count Ernesto Tanzi di Blevio, whose father had built nearby Villa Tanzi-Taverna in Torno. During the 19th-century, one of the owners was Marchesa Maria Trotti Belgioso. The present villa was built in around 1855 by Canzio Canzi or Giovanni Antonio Piotti from Vacallo Vacallo is a municipality in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Gaius Plinius Secundus (AD 23/2479), called Pliny the Elder (), was a Roman author, naturalist and natural philosopher, and naval and army commander of the early Roman Empire, and a friend of the emperor Vespasian. Villa Pliniana is a villa originally built in 1573, on the site of a more modest pre-existing building, in the territory of the municipality of Torno, in the province of Como, on the right bank of the western branch of Lake Como. Luca Beltrami
Luca Beltrami (November 13, 1854 – August 8, 1933) was an Italian architect and architectural historian, known particularly for restoration projects. Biography Beltrami was born in Milan. He was initially a student at the Politecnico in Milan, then in the Brera Academy, where he studied under Camillo Boito. From there he moved to Paris, where he stayed till 1880. He was involved in works at Trocadero an at the Palace of the National Exhibitions. He was able to outscore those taking tests from the Ecole Nationale de Beaux Arts, and distinguished himself at the Salon with designs by aquaforte. He was nominated the second in command as inspector of the works of reconstruction at the Hotel de Ville of Paris. He collaborated with the architect Théodore Ballu in works on the Palace of Justice at Charleroi, Belgium. Vacallo
Vacallo is a municipality in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It is the first (or last) village of the Valle di Muggio. History Like nearby Chiasso, Vacallo was formerly a suburb of Como, until, along with the rest of Ticino it was then annexed from Italian cities in the 15th century by various Swiss forces in the last transalpine campaigns of the Old Swiss Confederacy. More precisely it was 1416 when it was incorporated in the Pieve of Balerna and given to the Rusca family to manage. In the Helvetic Republic, established 1798, it formed part of the canton of Lugano. The creation of the Swiss Confederation in 1803 saw a merger with neighbouring canton of Bellinzona to form the modern canton of Ticino.
