Villa Archinto Pennati, Monza
The Villa Archinti Pennati is a Neoclassical style rural palace outside of the town of Monza, in the Region of Lombardy, Italy. History The villa's design is indebted to Luigi Canonica and was built for Count Archinto, beginning in 1829. A 16th-century palace once stood at the site. Canonica also designed the surrounding landscaped gardens, adjacent to those of the Royal Villa of Monza and bordering the Lambro river. In 1862, the Archinto family sold the property to the Barnabite Order, who converted the property in to a school for boys. In 1873, the institute was suppressed and the villa acquired by Filippo Pennati. It remains a private residence of his descendants, and is now subdivided into apartments. Much of the movable interior decoration was sold by the Barnabite Order. The gardens contain two small temples, a pseudo-medieval tower, and an artificial lake, as well as other decorative architectural objects. Neoclassical Architecture
Neoclassical architecture is an architectural style produced by the Neoclassical movement that began in the mid-18th century in Italy and France. It became one of the most prominent architectural styles in the Western world. The prevailing styles of architecture in most of Europe for the previous two centuries, Renaissance architecture and Baroque architecture, already represented partial revivals of the Classical architecture of ancient Rome and (much less) ancient Greek architecture, but the Neoclassical movement aimed to strip away the excesses of Late Baroque and return to a purer and more authentic classical style, adapted to modern purposes. Monza
Monza (, ; lmo, label=Lombard language, Lombard, Monça, locally ; lat, Modoetia) is a city and ''comune'' on the River Lambro, a tributary of the Po River, Po in the Lombardy region of Italy, about north-northeast of Milan. It is the capital of the Province of Monza and Brianza. (Cristoforo Maria) Luigi Canonica (Tesserete, Canton Ticino, 9 March 1762 – Milan, 7 February 1844) was a Swiss architect and urban planner whose prominent career as an exponent of neoclassicism was spent largely in Milan and Lombardy. He was the designated architect of the short-lived Repubblica Cisalpina, and, following the fall of the Napoleonic empire, of the kings of Sardinia. The Royal Villa (Italian: ''Villa Reale'') is a historical building in Monza, northern Italy. It lies on the banks of the Lambro river, surrounded by the large Monza Park, one of the largest enclosed parks in Europe. The Royal Villa, which is also called the Palace of Monza, is neoclassical palace built by the Habsburgs as a private residence during the Austrian domination of the 18th century. It became the residence of the viceroy with the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy but it lost this function progressively during the Kingdom of Italy of Savoy, the last Royals to use it. Lambro
The Lambro ( lmo, Lamber or ''Lambar'' ) is a river of Lombardy, northern Italy, a left tributary of the Po. The Lambro rises from the Monte San Primo, elevation , near the Ghisallo, in the province of Como, not far from Lake Como. After Magreglio it flows through the Valassina and the ''comuni'' of Asso, Ponte Lambro and Erba, entering Lake Pusiano with the name of ''Lambrone''. The Lambro passes through Brianza reaching Monza and crossing its famous park (where king Umberto I was assassinated by Gaetano Bresci) in two branches which join again before the river passes through the eastern part of Milan. Luca Beltrami
Luca Beltrami (November 13, 1854 – August 8, 1933) was an Italian architect and architectural historian, known particularly for restoration projects. Biography Beltrami was born in Milan. He was initially a student at the Politecnico in Milan, then in the Brera Academy, where he studied under Camillo Boito. From there he moved to Paris, where he stayed till 1880. He was involved in works at Trocadero an at the Palace of the National Exhibitions. He was able to outscore those taking tests from the Ecole Nationale de Beaux Arts, and distinguished himself at the Salon with designs by aquaforte. He was nominated the second in command as inspector of the works of reconstruction at the Hotel de Ville of Paris. He collaborated with the architect Théodore Ballu in works on the Palace of Justice at Charleroi, Belgium.
