It is a major work of Romantic nationalism and has become a national icon. It is regarded as one of Dahl's best works. Johan Christian Claussen Dahl (24 February 178814 October 1857), often known as or , was a Danish-Norwegian artist who is considered the first great romantic painter in Norway, the founder of the "golden age" of Norwegian painting, and, by some, one of the greatest European artists of all time. He is often described as "the father of Norwegian landscape painting" and is regarded as the first Norwegian painter to reach a level of artistic accomplishment comparable to that attained by the greatest European artists of his day. He was also the first to acquire genuine fame and cultural renown abroad. As one critic has put it, "J.C. ''Dagsavisen'' is a daily newspaper published in Oslo, Norway. The former party organ of the Norwegian Labour Party, the ties loosened over time from 1975 to 1999. It has borne several names, and was called ''Arbeiderbladet'' from 1923 to 1997. Eirik Hoff Lysholm is editor-in-chief. The newspaper depends on economic support from the Norwegian Government. History ''Dagsavisen'' was established by Christian Holtermann Knudsen in 1884 under the name ''Vort Arbeide'' ('Our Work' in archaic Riksmål), and was affiliated with the trade union center ''Fagforeningernes Centralkomité''. Holtermann Knudsen also had to establish his own printing press since the existing printing presses did not want to be affiliated with a labourer's newspaper. The fledgling project was marred by economic problems, and the burden of writing, editing, and printing lay chiefly on Knudsen. Jens Thiis
Jens Thiis (12 May 1870 – 27 June 1942) was a Norwegian art historian, conservator and a prominent museum director. He was conservator at the Nordenfjeld Industrial Arts Museum (''Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum'') in Trondheim beginning in 1895 and director of the National Gallery in Oslo from 1908 to 1941. Biography Jens Peter Thiis was born at Kongshavn in Aker, Norway. He was the son of Abraham Bøckmann Thiis (1840–90) and Emma Marie Löwegren (1842–1928). Thiis grew up with his mother's parents, goldsmith H. P. Löwegren and his wife in Kristiania (now Oslo). He graduated artium at Aars og Voss' skole in 1888. Thiis was a student at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry (''Den kgl. Bogstad Manor (''Bogstad gård'') is a historic Manor House and former estate located in the borough of Vestre Aker in Oslo, Norway. It is situated in the northwestern part of Oslo. Background Bogstad has its origin in a farm which was located near Bogstadvannet, a lake in the valley of Sørkedalen. The farm was owned by several notable people. It went from merchant and councilman Peder Nielsen Leuch (1692–1746) and his family to Norwegian Prime Minister Peder Anker, then to his son-in-law Governor of Norway Herman Wedel Jarlsberg via his marriage to Karen Anker, the only child of Peder Anker. Christiane Andrea "Karen" Wedel-Jarlsberg (née Anker; 2 November 1789 in Christiania (now Oslo) – 19 June 1849 on Bogstad gård), was a Norwegian countess and lady in waiting. Life Karen Wedel-Jarlsberg was the only surviving child and heir of landowner and prime minister Peder Anker and Anna Elisabeth Cold (1749–1803). She was one of the richest heirs in Norway. She married count Herman Wedel-Jarlsberg 19 May 1807 on Bogstad. Her spouse was one of the influential Norwegians who supported a union between Norway and Sweden. Gudvangen is a village in Aurland Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is a popular tourist destination and is located at the end of the Nærøyfjord where the Nærøydalselvi river empties into the fjord. The European route E16 highway passes by the village. Heading southwest on the highway leads to Voss municipality while heading northeast the E16 enters the Gudvanga Tunnel on its way to the villages of Flåm, Undredal, and Aurlandsvangen. Joseph Anton Koch (27 July 1768 – 12 January 1839) was an Austrian painter of Neoclassicism and later the German Romantic movement; he is perhaps the most significant neoclassical landscape painter. Biography The Tyrolese painter was born in Elbigenalp. Early in his life he was tending cattle. Through the recommendation of Bishop Umgelder (1785), he received academic training in the Karlsschule Stuttgart, a strict military academy. In 1791, he ran away, and traveled through France and Switzerland. He arrived in Rome in 1795. Koch was close to the painter Asmus Jacob Carstens and carried on Carstens' "heroic" art, at first in a literal manner.
