Víctor Manuelle is the eponymous third studio album by Puerto Rican salsero Víctor Manuelle. Released in 1996, ''Víctor Manuelle'' was the first successful album by the artist to chart including one single that reached in the top ten in the Hot Latin Tracks. Background Víctor Manuelle first started his recording career with the release of ''Justo a Tiempo...'' (Just in the Time...), which was produced by his protógé, Gilberto Santa Rosa. Despite this, the album did not the chart and the lead single ''Me Dará el Consentimiento'' (She Will Give the Consent) only peaked #21 on the Hot Latin Tracks. The follow-up album, ''Solo Contigo'' (Only with you), again did not chart on Billboard. However, the lead single ''Apiadate de Mi'' (Pity me) was more successful than the previous singles and reached #16 on the Hot Latin Tracks and #3 on the Latin Tropical Airplay chart. Víctor Manuel Ruiz Velázquez (born September 27, 1968), known professionally as Víctor Manuelle, is an American salsa musician, known to his fans as ''El Sonero de la Juventud'' ("The Singer Of Youths"). He is identified primarily with '' salsa romántica or "salsa monga".'' Víctor Manuelle has neither recorded in English, nor made a Latin pop album, nor (with rare exceptions) ventured into acting, preferring to remain a musician grounded within salsa music. Salsa (music)
Salsa music is a style of Latin American music. Because most of the basic musical components predate the labeling of salsa, there have been many controversies regarding its origin. Most songs considered as salsa are primarily based on son montuno, with elements of mambo, Latin jazz, bomba, plena and guaracha. All of these elements are adapted to fit the basic son montuno template when performed within the context of salsa. Originally the name salsa was used to label commercially several styles of Latin dance music, but nowadays it is considered a musical style on its own and one of the staples of Latin American culture. The first self-identified salsa bands were predominantly assembled by Cuban and Puerto Rican musicians in New York City in the '70s. Gilberto Santa Rosa Cortés, nicknamed "El Caballero de la Salsa" (The Gentleman of Salsa) (born August 21, 1962), is a Puerto Rican bandleader and singer of salsa and bolero. He is a six time Grammy Award winner and has sold over three million records in the United States and Puerto Rico. Santa Rosa also starred in a comedy. Early years Santa Rosa was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Here he received his primary and secondary education and became interested in music.
