Vic Groves
Victor George Groves (5 November 1932 – 24 January 2015) was an English association football, footballer. Career Born in Stepney, London, Groves started his career at east London non-league clubs Leytonstone F.C., Leytonstone and Walthamstow Avenue F.C., Walthamstow Avenue, and then briefly as an amateur for Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Tottenham Hotspur before signing professional forms with Leyton Orient F.C., Leyton Orient in 1954. He scored twice on his Tottenham debut in a 3-1 victory over Liverpool F.C , Liverpool at White Hart Lane in September 1952. But only made 4 appearances for the 'Lilywhites'. Playing as an striker (football), inside forward, his regular goalscoring for Orient soon attracted the attention of Arsenal F.C., Arsenal, who signed him in November 1955 for £23,000, at the time a very high figure. Stepney
Stepney is a district in the East End of London in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The district is no longer officially defined, and is usually used to refer to a relatively small area. However, for much of its history the place name applied to a much larger manor and parish. Stepney Green is a remnant of a larger area of Common Land formerly known as Mile End Green. The area was built up rapidly in the 19th century, mainly to accommodate immigrant workers and displaced London poor, and developed a reputation for poverty, overcrowding, violence and political dissent. It was severely damaged during the Blitz, with over a third of housing totally destroyed; and then, in the 1960s, slum clearance and development replaced most residential streets with tower blocks and modern housing estates. Perry Groves (born 19 April 1965) is an English former association football, footballer, known chiefly for his time at Arsenal F.C., Arsenal. He was a fast-paced player who usually played as a Midfielder#Winger, winger, and occasionally as a Striker (association football), striker. Groves also played for Colchester United F.C., Colchester United and Southampton F.C., Southampton. He currently works as a media pundit. England National Amateur Football Team
The England national amateur football team was the amateur representative team for England at football. It was formed in 1901, due to the growth of the professional game which meant that amateur players could no longer easily find places in the main England national team. It was the most successful team in the British Amateur Championship, winning on 16 occasions (5 joint). The England amateur team was disbanded by The Football Association in 1974. Southern Football League
The Southern League is a men's football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from the South and Midlands of England.
