Vibenshus Runddel
Vibenshus Runddel (literally "Vibenshus Circle) is a major junction and public spare where the streets Jagtvej, Nørre Allé, Øster Allé and Lyngby Kongevej, Lyngbyvejen meet at the northwestern corner of Fælledparken in the outer Østerbro area of Copenhagen, Denmark. In Danish, 'Runddel' means a "round open space at a street junction" One of the 17 stations at the operating City Circle Line of the Copenhagen Metro is located at the site. History The name Vibenshus refers to the inn Store Vibenshus ("Great Vibenshus") which was originally built at the site as a residence for the gate keeper at Lyngby Kongevej, the royal road to Frederiksborg Castle, Frederiksborg in 1629. The name Vibenhus is first recorded in 1669. The circle that gave rise to the second half of the name was built at the site in the 1770s. Kay Fisker
Kay Otto Fisker, Hon. FAIA (14 February 1893 – 21 June 1965) was a Danish architect, designer and educator. He is mostly known for his many housing projects, mainly in the Copenhagen area, and is considered a leading exponent of Danish Functionalism. Education and career Kay Fisker was born on 14 February 1893 in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. He entered the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1909 and while there worked at the offices of leading Scandinavian architects such as Anthon Rosen, Sigurd Lewerentz, Gunnar Asplund and Hack Kampmann parallel to his studies. In 1915, in collaboration with Aage Rafn, he won a competition to design the railway stations along the Almindingen-Gudhjem railway on the Danish island of Bornholm. Galle & Jessen is a Danish chocolate and confectionery brand founded in 1872 and now owned by Toms International. History Galle & Jessen was founded as an independent company by Edvard W. Galle (1844-1900) and Hans Jessen (1851-1907). It was initially based in a cellar at Store Kongensgade 6 but relocated to larger premises at Toldbodgade 15 in 1873. The company was converted into a limited company (''aktieselskab'') in 1883 and a large new factory at Vibenhus Runddel was inaugurated in 1884. The factory was later expanded several times. Frederiksborg Castle
Frederiksborg Castle ( da, Frederiksborg Slot) is a palatial complex in Hillerød, Denmark. It was built as a royal residence for King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway in the early 17th century, replacing an older castle acquired by Frederick II and becoming the largest Renaissance residence in Scandinavia. On three islets in the ''Slotssøen'' (castle lake), it is adjoined by a large formal garden in the Baroque style. After a serious fire in 1859, the castle was rebuilt on the basis of old plans and paintings. Thanks to public support and the brewer J. C. Jacobsen, its apartments were fully restored and reopened to the public as the Danish Museum of National History in 1882. Nørre Allé
Nørre Alle (literally "North Avenue") is a street in Copenhagen, Denmark, running from Blegdamsvej in Nørrebro in the south to Vibenshus Runddel in Østerbro in the north. It runs through University of Copenhagen's North Campus which is centred on its junction with Tagensvej. The section north of the junction, which separates Fælledparken to the east from the University Park to the west, is a busy artery. De Gamles By is situated on the west side of the more quiet, western portion. History The avenue was constructed across Nørrefælled (North Common) in 1744.
