Abraham Isaacsen Verplanck
Abraham Isaacsen Verplanck (1606–1690), also known as Abraham Isaacse Ver Planck, was an early and prominent settler in New Netherlands. A land developer and speculator, he was the progenitor of an extensive Verplanck family in the United States. Immigrating circa 1633, he received a land grant at Paulus Hook (in today's Jersey City) in 1638. He was one of the driving forces behind the bloody Kieft's War against the Native American population, set off by their retaliation to the Dutch's 1643 Pavonia massacre. His losses were so great at Pavonia he was forced to mortgage his Paulus Hook plantations. A property owner on a smaller scale on Manhattan for the remainder of his life, he died with outstanding debt, settled by his family in 1699 by sale of one of his holdings. Catharina Verplanck, also known as Callyntje Verplanck, Catalina Verplanck, or Catharina Schuyler (February 1639 – 8 October 1708) was the daughter of Verplanck family progenitor and land developer Abraham Isaacsen Verplanck and wife of David Pieterse Schuyler who was a progenitor of the Schuyler family. Early life Verplanck was born in February 1639 to New Netherland pioneers Abraham Isaacsen Verplanck and Maria de la Vigne. Her father was Dutch-born and her mother was French-born. Her siblings were Abigael Van Lear, Gulian, Isaac, Susanna, Jacomyntjie, Ariantje, Hillegondt, Isaac. The first Isaac lived and died in 1641, and his younger brother was born 10 years after his death in 1651 and lived to 1729. The Wake are a British post-punk, synth-pop and later indie pop band, formed in Glasgow in 1981 by Gerard "Caesar" McInulty (formerly of Altered Images), Steven Allen (drums) and Joe Donnelly (bass), the latter replaced by Bobby Gillespie. Steven's sister Carolyn Allen also joined on keyboards, and remained in the band thereafter. Gillespie left the band in 1983, replaced by Martin Cunning and then by Alexander 'Mac' Macpherson. Gulian Crommelin Verplanck (August 6, 1786 – March 18, 1870) was an American attorney, politician, and writer. He was elected to the New York State Assembly and Senate, and later to the United States House of Representatives from New York, where he served as Chairman of the influential House Ways and Means Committee. He served in a number of appointed positions of major institutions in New York: governor of New York Hospital; regent of the University of the State of New York, where in 1858, he became its Vice Chancellor, serving until his death more than a decade later; and President of the Board of Commissioners of Immigration for more than two decades. Verplanck published articles and poetry in the ''North American Review,'' and was counted among the "Knickerbocker group". Rombout Patent
The Rombout Patent was a Colonial era land patent issued by King James II of England in 1685 sanctioning the right of Francis Rombouts and his partners Stephanus Van Cortlandt and Jacobus Kip to own some of land they had purchased from Native Americans. The Patent included most of what is today's southern Dutchess County, New York. It was the first of fourteen patents granted between 1685 and 1706 which came to cover the entirety of historic Dutchess County (which until 1812 included today's Putnam County). The first eleven, granted between 1685–1697, covered every foot of Hudson River shoreline in the original county. The last three, 1703-1706, laid claim to the remaining interior lands. Gulian Verplanck (February 10, 1751 – November 20, 1799) was an American banker and politician. Early life Verplanck was born in February 1751 and was only nine months old when his father died. He was the youngest of the six children of Gulian Verplanck (1698–1751) and Mary (née Crommelin) Verplanck, who married in 1737. Marlene Paula VerPlanck ''(née'' Pampinella; November 11, 1933 – January 14, 2018) was an American jazz and pop vocalist whose body of work centered on big band jazz, the American songbook, and cabaret. Life and career VerPlanck was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, the eldest of three siblings. Her father, Anthony J. Pampinella, operated a gasoline station there, and her mother was Pauline A. Biase, whose family ran an Italian restaurant. She married trombonist, composer, and arranger J. William "Billy" VerPlanck (1930–2009) in 1955, and he became her musical collaborator and champion.
