Veronika Voss
''Veronika Voss'' (german: Die Sehnsucht der Veronika Voss, "The Sehnsucht, Longing of Veronika Voss") is a 1982 West German black-and-white drama film directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and starring Rosel Zech, Hilmar Thate, and Cornelia Froboess. Loosely based on the career of actress Sybille Schmitz, the film follows the titular Veronika Voss, a morphine-addicted film star in 1955 Munich who begins an affair with a sports journalist; soon after, he discovers that Veronika is under the control of a corrupt neurology, neurologist scheming to bleed her of her wealth. ''Veronika Voss'' is the second film of his BRD Trilogy, but was chronologically made last, after ''The Marriage of Maria Braun'' and ''Lola (1981 film), Lola''. BRD Trilogy
The BRD Trilogy (german: BRD-Trilogie) consists of three films directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder: ''The Marriage of Maria Braun'' (1979), ''Lola'' (1981) and ''Veronika Voss'' (1982). The films are connected in a thematic rather than in a narrative sense. All three deal with different characters (though some actors recur in different roles) and plotlines, but each one focuses on the story of a specific woman in West Germany after World War II. Günther Kaufmann
Günther Kaufmann (16 June 1947 – 10 May 2012) was a German film actor best known for his association with director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Fassbinder directed Kaufmann in a total of 14 films, casting him in leading and minor roles. Kaufmann was also romantically involved with the director for a time. In 2002, Kaufmann was accused of murder in relation to the 2001 death of Hartmut Hagen, a 60-year-old accountant whom Kaufmann's wife had defrauded. The death was ruled accidental, but Kaufmann was sentenced to prison for lesser crimes relating to the incident. In 2005, a new police investigation discovered that Kaufmann was innocent, and had confessed to the crimes to cover up for his late wife, who may have been the perpetrator. Peter Berling (20 March 1934 – 21 November 2017) was a German actor, film producer and writer. He has worked on several occasions with director Werner Herzog, among them his collaborations with actor Klaus Kinski like ''Aguirre, the Wrath of God'', ''Fitzcarraldo'' and ''Cobra Verde''. In several of his medieval novels, Berling has drawn on conspiracy theories based on the Priory of Sion. Berling died on 21 November 2017 in Rome, aged 83. Erik Schumann (15 February 1925 – 9 February 2007) was a German actor. He appeared in 100 films and television shows between 1942 and 1997. He was most successful during the 1950s and 1960s, when he played leading roles in several German films. He starred in the 1964 film ''Time of the Innocent'', which was entered into the 14th Berlin International Film Festival. Armin Mueller-Stahl (born 17 December 1930) is a retired German film actor, painter and author, who also appeared in numerous English-language films since the 1980s. Annemarie Düringer (26 November 1925 – 26 November 2014) was a Swiss actress. She was born in Arlesheim, Basel-Landschaft. The daughter of a Swiss industrialist, she graduated from Cours Simon, Paris in 1946, and from the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna the following year, in 1947. In 1949 she became a member of the prestigious Vienna Burgtheater where she played major roles such as Queen Elisabeth in Schiller's '' Maria Stuart''. She remained in the ensemble of this theatre until her death. In 2004 she became patron of the Murau festival Shakespeare in Styria founded by Nicholas Allen and Rudolph J. Wojta. Paul Joseph Goebbels (; 29 October 1897 – 1 May 1945) was a German Nazi politician who was the ''Gauleiter'' (district leader) of Berlin, chief propagandist for the Nazi Party, and then Reich Minister of Propaganda from 1933 to 1945.
