Veronika Harcsa
Veronika Harcsa (born October 8, 1982 in Budapest, Hungary) is a Hungarian jazz singer and songwriter, known to be active in various musical genres. She has received the Hungarian Music Award for Best Jazz Album and Best Alternative Album. Career She started university at Budapest University of Technology and Economics, but switched to Liszt Academy of Music, graduating in 2008. She earned her Master's degree in 2014 from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Her current main project is a duo with guitar player Balint Gyémánt. Their second album "Tell Her" was released on Traumton Records in February 2017 to critical acclaim. Veronika founded her first jazz band, a quartet, in 2005. Between 2006 and 2011 this formation released four albums, two of which reached the top of the vocal jazz charts at Tower Records, Japan. David Helbock
David Helbock (born 28 January 1984 in Koblach) is an Austrian jazz musician. Music education Helbock began playing piano at the age of six. After several years of lessons at the music school Feldkirch with Nora Calvo Smith and at the jazz seminar Dornbirn with Paul Winter, he switched to the music high school in Feldkirch in 1998. During school he began to study piano with Ferenc Bognar at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory, where he completed his classical concert diploma in 2005. Since 2000, Helbock has also taken lessons with the New York jazz pianist Peter Madsen, with whom he also played in the band ''Mistura'' and in his ensemble ''CIA'' (Collective of Improvising Artists). Hungarian rock has been a part of the popular music of Hungary since the early 1960s. The first major bands were Illés (band), Illés, Metró (band), Metró and Omega (band), Omega. At the time, rock was not approved of by the Hungarian Communist authorities. In the 1970s, the Communists cracked down on rock, and Illés was banned from recording. Some members of the other bands formed a Supergroup (music), supergroup called Locomotiv GT, while the band Omega became very popular in Germany. Nicola Conte is an Italian DJ, producer, guitarist, and bandleader, known initially for introducing an innovative style of acid jazz that incorporates bossa nova themes, melodies drawn from Italian film scores of the 1960s, easy listening themes, and traditional Indian music. Recently, he has focused much more on Latin jazz. This focus is evident in his albums ''Other Directions'' (2004, Blue Note & Schema) and ''Rituals'' (2008, Schema), and many remixes he has done for contemporaries stretching across many closely related genres. Kris Defoort
Kris Defoort is a Belgian avant-garde jazz pianist and composer. He was born on 30 November 1959 in Bruges. He also teaches at the Brussels conservatory. His brother is Bart Defoort (saxophonist and composer). He entered in 1978 the Antwerp conservatory to study early music and recorder. He graduated 4 years later and he then decided to study contemporary music and jazz at the Liège conservatory. Frederic Rzewski, Henri Pousseur and Garrett List were among his teachers. In 1986 Defoort released his first recording with his quintet Diva Smiles. The next year, he went to New York to study at New York Long Island University, Brooklyn. Enrico Pieranunzi (born 5 December 1949) is an Italian jazz pianist. He combines classical technique with jazz. Biography The son of Renata Brillantini and Alvaro Pieranunzi, Enrico Pieranunzi was encouraged to study music at a young age. His father was a jazz guitarist. He studied classical music until 1973 when he became a Professor of Music, and remained in the post for two years. In 1975 he left his teaching practice and played in trios and small ensembles. He has recorded over 60 albums and has also been active as a session musician. Erik Truffaz (born 3 April 1960 in Chêne-Bougeries, Switzerland) is a French jazz trumpeter, infusing elements of hip hop, rock and roll and dance music into his compositions. Early life Truffaz was introduced to music by his father, a saxophone player, and played in his father's bands growing up. Education Truffaz was inspired to study jazz when he heard Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue at 16 years old, and joined Switzerland's Geneva Conservatoire for university studies.
