Estádio Governador José Fragelli, usually known as Verdão, was a multi-purpose stadium in Cuiabá, Brazil. The stadium, used mostly for football matches, holds 40,000, and was built in 1976. It was replaced by a new stadium in the city, seating about 40,000, that was used for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. ''Verdão'' is owned by the Mato Grosso state government. The stadium is named after José Fragelli, who was the Mato Grosso's governor from 1970 until 1974, during the time of the stadium's construction. ''Verdão'' means ''Big Green'' in the Portuguese language. It was the home stadium of Mixto, Dom Bosco and Operário. Cuiabá () is the capital city of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. It is located near the geographical centre of South America. Arena Pantanal is a multi-use stadium in Cuiabá, Brazil. Completed on 26 April 2014, it is used mostly for football and hosted four group stage matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. During the World Cup, the arena had a capacity of 41,390, and currently can seat 44,003 spectators. Prior to its use for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the venue received much criticism. It suffered a fire in October 2013, due to polystyrene insulation panels catching alight. Although nobody was injured, the fire came within 24 hours of the state governor of Mato Grosso warning that it may not be finished for the World Cup. On the day of its opening, on 24 April 2014, 5,000 seats were still to be installed in the stadium. José Manuel Fontanillas Fragelli (31 December 1915 – 30 April 2010) was a Brazilian politician, lawyer and academic. Fragelli served as the Governor of Mato Grosso from 1970 until 1974 and the President of the Senate of Brazil from 1985 through 1987. Fragelli was born in the city of Corumbá, Brazil. (Corumbá was located in the state of Mato Grosso at the time. In 1977, the new state of Mato Grosso do Sul, which includes Corumbá, was carved from Mato Grosso). He earned his law degree from the Faculty of Law at Largo São Francisco ( Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de São Paulo). Fragelli began his career as a district attorney and law professor.
