North-East Project ( it, Progetto NordEst, PNE) is a Venetist, fiscal federalist and libertarian Italian political party based in Veneto, demanding larger autonomy, if not complete independence for the region. History The party was founded in June 2004 by Giorgio Panto, along with former members of the Liga Veneta– Lega Nord (LV–LN) and former members of Liga Fronte Veneto, notably Mariangelo Foggiato and Ettore Beggiato. The PNE won 5.4% of the vote in the 2005 regional election, electing Foggiato and Diego Cancian to the Regional Council of Veneto, while Panto, who was candidate for President and ran a campaign based on the slogan "Dignity. Autonomy for Veneto", took 6.0% (16.1% in the stronghold of Treviso). The key-issue for the party within the Regional Council has since been transforming Veneto into an autonomous regio ...

The party was also influenced by Christian democracy and social democracy. Both its latest secretary, Antonio Guadagnini, and its former president, Giustino Cherubin, were former Christian Democrats. VS had close ties with Independentist Youth, the Venetians Movement, and, strangely enough, the Libertarian Movement. At the European level, VS cooperated with the European Partnership f ...

Veneto Freedom (''Veneto Libertà'', VL) was a Venetist-separatist coalition of parties active in Veneto. Talks between several Venetist parties over the formation of a united party as a reliable competitor of Liga Veneta–Lega Nord started in February 2008 during a meeting in Pastrengo, Verona. The alliance, promoted by Fabrizio Comencini, Carlo Covi and Patrik Riondato, was officially launched in November 2009 by the union of six parties and groups: *Liga Veneta Repubblica (LVR, centrist) * Bellunese Autonomist Party (PAB, centrist) * Venetian Agreement (IV, social-democratic) * Venetian People's Unity (UPV, communist/socialist) *Venetians Movement (MV, no ideological affiliation) * Venetian State (SV, no ideological affiliation) The coalition favored a referendum on the self-determination of Veneto in a framework of a confederal Italian state, but not secession from Italy. History Background and foundation The party was founded in 2007 by Gianluca Busato (who had been a founding member of the Venetians Movement in 2006), Claudio Ghiotto (also known as Claudio Hütte) and Alessia Bellon. This last event led Busato to abandon his early Padanist feelings and to adhere to the Venetian independence movement. According to his own words, Busato returned to active politics only after the depenalisation of "crimes of opinion". In 2006 he wrote a pam ...
