Venetian Left (2015)
Venetian Left (''Sinistra Veneta'', SV) was a communist political party in Veneto. The party was formed in March 2015 by Pietrangelo Pettenò, a three-term member of the Regional Council of Veneto, and the majority of the Venice's municipal section of the Communist Refoundation Party (PRC), notably including Renato Cardazzo and Sebastiano Bonzio. Pettenò wanted a fourth term as regional councillor and to support Alessandra Moretti of the Democratic Party (PD) for President in the 2015 regional election, instead of running as stand-alone list, as decided by the regional leadership of the PRC. SV participated in the election within the New Veneto (VN) list, endorsed also by the regional sections of Left Ecology and Freedom (SEL) and the Federation of the Greens (FdV). In the election VN obtained a mere 1.1% of the vote and no seats in the Council. Consequently, Pettenò left the assembly after fifteen years. Pietrangelo Pettenò
Pietrangelo Pettenò (Mestre, 6 January 1960) is an Italian politician from Veneto. Pettenò, a flight engineer, started his political career in the 1980s with the Italian Communist Party (PCI). In 1991 he opposed the transformation of the party into the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS) and was a founding member of the Communist Refoundation Party (PRC) instead. Thus, he was three times elected (2000, 2005 and 2010) with the PRC to the Regional Council of Veneto. Between 2000 and 2005 Pettenò served also as municipal councillor in Venice. In March 2015 Pettenò, who wanted a fourth term as regional councillor and to support Alessandra Moretti of the Democratic Party (PD) for President in the 2015 regional election, left the PRC and launched Venetian Left (SV). Left Ecology Freedom ( it, Sinistra Ecologia Libertà, SEL) was a democratic socialist political party in Italy whose bulk was formed by former members of the Communist Refoundation Party. 2015 Venetian Regional Election
The Venetian regional election of 2015 took place in Veneto on 31 May 2015, as part of a big round of regional elections in Italy. Venetian voters elected their President and their Regional Council, whose members had been reduced to 51, including the President. Luca Zaia, incumbent President (elected in 2010 with 60.2% of the vote) and leading member of the Northern League (LN), was re-elected by a reduced majority, due to a split occurred within his party in the run-up of the election, but, despite this, his victory over Alessandra Moretti of the Democratic Party (PD), who fared quite badly, was still a landslide: 50.1% to 22.7%. Alessandra Moretti (born 24 June 1973 in Vicenza) is an Italian politician who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. Early life and education Moretti graduated in law at the University of Urbino and has worked as a divorce lawyer since 2001. Political career Since her young age, Moretti was interested in politics, following her father, who had been active in the Italian Communist Party. She first entered politics with the Democrats of the Left.
