Venetian Agreement
Venetian Agreement (''Intesa Veneta'', IV) is a centrist social-democratic Italian political party active in Veneto. It emerged in 2006 as a regional split from the Italian Democratic Socialists and it is led by Carlo Covi, regional deputy, and Monica Balbinot, minister of Culture of Padova. The party was particularly strong in the Municipal Council of Padova: three councillors of out the seven elected by the Socialists in 2004 switched to the new party. In Padua it supported the municipal government led by Flavio Zanonato (Democratic Party) until the elections in June 2009, when it proposed the leader Covi for mayor. ''Venetian Agreement'' took part in 2008 Italian general elections, only in the region of Veneto, gaining 2388 votes (0.006%) for the Chamber of Deputies and 4275 (0.013%) for the Senate. Carlo Covi
Carlo Covi (Padua, 29 November 1961) is a Venetist and social-democratic politician from Veneto, Italy. He entered politics in 1995 when he was elected to the Municipal Council of Padua as an independent Democrat of the Left. In 1999 he joined the Italian Democratic Socialists (SDI), was re-elected to the Municipal Council and became the local leader of the party. Re-elected in 2004, in the 2005 regional election Covi was elected member of the Regional Council of Veneto in the Province of Padua for The Olive Tree. As soon as 2006 he left the SDI in order to launch his own political party, Venetian Agreement, whose name reflected his shift toward Venetism. Mariangelo Foggiato
Mariangelo Foggiato (Possagno, 19 April 1954) is a Venetist politician. Having joined Liga Veneta–Lega Nord, he was elected to the Regional Council of Veneto in 1995. However, he left the party in 1998, when he founded Liga Veneta Repubblica (LVR) along with Fabrizio Comencini. He was national president of LVR until 1999, when he left the party, together with Senator Antonio Serena, founding the Liga dei Veneti, in dissent on the alliance with Forza Italia prospected by Fabrizio Comencini, LVR national secretary. Foggiato then abandoned politics until 2004, when returned to political activity as member of North-East Project (PNE), of which he was a founder (along with Giorgio Panto) and secretary. North-East Union
The North-East Union (''Unione Nord-Est'') was a Venetist political party active in Veneto. The party was formed in 1996 by splinters from Liga Veneta–Lega Nord led by Adriano Bertaso, a regional councillor. In the 1996 general election the party won 2.0% of the vote for the Chamber of Deputies, by running only in the Verona–Padua–Vicenza–Rovigo constituency (3.4%), and 2.6% for the Senate. In 1999 Bertaso led the Union into the Liga Veneta Repubblica (LVR) of Fabrizio Comencini, but soon after left it and re-organized his party, which is currently a minor political force in Veneto. Antonio De Poli (born 4 October 1960 in Vicenza) is an Italian politician and former Member of the European Parliament for North-East with the Union of Christian and Centre Democrats, part of the European People's Party. In the EP he was vice-chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Fisheries and its Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. Veneto Freedom (''Veneto Libertà'', VL) was a Venetist-separatist coalition of parties active in Veneto. 2010 Venetian Regional Election
The Venetian regional election of 2010 took place on 28–29 March 2010, as part of Italy's big round of regional elections. Luca Zaia, rising star of the Northern League, was elected President by a landslide. With the support of 60.2% of Venetians, he was the most voted President of Veneto since direct election was introduced in 1995. Liga Veneta became the largest in the region with 35.2%. The total score of Venetist parties (also including North-East Union, Party of the Venetians, Venetian National Party and Liga Veneto Autonomo) was 37.6%, the highest so far.
