Vena Records was an American record label located in Madison, Alabama in the late 1950s. Three singles are thought to have been released by the label. Singles Marlon "Madman" Mitchell and the Rocketeers *"Bermuda Shorts" / "Ice Cold Baby" (1957) Both songs were written by Billy Hogan. Billy Hogan and The Twilighters *"Shake It Over Sputnik" / "I Don't Want Anything But Your Love" (1958) Both songs were written by Billy Hogan. The Sacred-Aires Quartet *"I Can't Be Satisfied" / "We're Sailing Along" (1960) Performed by The Sacred Aires Quartet, side one was written by Alton Delmore, probably the last song he wrote. Side two was written by James Holland. The piano player on the session was David Vest. Madison, Alabama
Madison is a city located primarily in Madison County, near the northern border of the U.S. state of Alabama. Madison extends west into neighboring Limestone County. The city is included in the Huntsville Metropolitan Area, the second-largest in the state, and is also included in the merged Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 56,933, up from 42,938 at the 2010 census. Madison is bordered by Huntsville on nearly all sides with some small unincorporated lands within and around Madison in Madison and Limestone Counties. Madison was mostly a small city for many years until Redstone Arsenal was established nearby, which attracted many people to the area for jobs. Billy Hogan
Billy Hogan (October 10, 1933 - June 6, 1994) was a singer and songwriter. He was born in Elkmont, AL. He recorded several singles for the Vena label in the 1950s. He is remembered for writing Ernie Ashworth's 1962 hit Each Moment. The Delmore Brothers
Alton Delmore (December 25, 1908 – June 9, 1964) and Rabon Delmore (December 3, 1916 – December 4, 1952), billed as The Delmore Brothers, were country music pioneer singer-songwriters and musicians who were stars of the Grand Ole Opry in the 1930s. The Delmore Brothers, together with other brother duos such as the Louvin Brothers, the Blue Sky Boys, the Monroe Brothers (Birch Monroe, Charlie Monroe and Bill Monroe), the McGee Brothers, and The Stanley Brothers, had a profound impact on the history of country music and American popular music. David Vest
David Vest (born November 2, 1943) is an American blues piano player and songwriter from Huntsville, Alabama, United States. Vest is currently signed to the Canadian Independent label, Cordova Bay Records, and lives in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. History Vest was born in 1943, and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. He learned to a play on a used piano his grandmother had delivered to their house in West End, a few blocks away from Ensley's Tuxedo Junction. He played his first paying gig at the age of 14. He has worked professionally as a pianist from the age of 15, since 1957. In the 1960s Vest played seven nights a week at Pappy's Club with Jerry Woodard and The Esquires. On New Year's Day 1962 he opened for Roy Orbison. He backed Big Joe Turner in the 1960s and later toured with Jimmy T99 Nelson, Floyd Dixon, and Lavelle White, as well as the rockabilly group Bill Black's Combo.
