Vecpiebalga Municipality
Vecpiebalga Municipality ( lv, Vecpiebalgas novads) is a former municipality in Vidzeme, Latvia. It ceased to exist on 1 July 2021, as its territory was merged into Cēsis Municipality as Vecpiebalga Parish. Law on Administrative Territories and Populated Areas The municipality was formed in 2009 by Merger (politics), merging Dzērbene Parish, Ineši Parish, Kaive Parish, Taurene Parish and Vecpiebalga Parish; the administrative centre being Vecpiebalga. Vecpiebalga (german: Alt-Pebalg) is a village in Cēsis Municipality in the Vidzeme Vidzeme (; Old Latvian orthography: ''Widda-semme'', liv, Vidūmō) is one of the Historical Latvian Lands. Vecpiebalga is an important village in Latvian cultural identity. The first Latvian novel, ''"The Time of the Land Surveyors"'' (orig. ''Mērnieku laiki'') was written by two school teachers, Reinis Kaudzīte and Matīss Kaudzīte, in Vecpiebalga. Written in 1879, the novel details the transition from a communal way of life to a more modern, individualistic way of life. The village was also an important center of weaving Latvian textiles. Latvian Farmers' Union
The Latvian Farmers' Union ( lv, Latvijas Zemnieku savienība, LZS) is an agrarian political party in Latvia. Initially formed in 1917 during the period of Latvian War of Independence, it was banned in 1934. It was re-established in 1990. It is positioned in the centre on the political spectrum and it has expressed conservative and nationalistic rhetoric. Since 2002, the party has been a part of the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS), together with the Latvian Green Party. It was formerly a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. Cēsis Municipality
Cēsis Municipality ( lv, Cēsu novads) is a municipality in Vidzeme, Latvia. The municipality was formed in 2009 by merging Vaive parish and Cēsis town, which became the administrative centre. As of 2020, the population was 16,291. On 1 July 2021, Cēsis Municipality was enlarged when Amata Municipality, Jaunpiebalga Municipality, Līgatne Municipality, Pārgauja Municipality, Priekuļi Municipality and Vecpiebalga Municipality were merged into it. A merger, consolidation or amalgamation, in a political or administrative sense, is the combination of two or more political or administrative entities, such as municipality, municipalities (in other words city, cities, towns, etc.), county, counties, districts, etc., into a single entity.
