Vassil Kazandjiev or Vasil Ivanov Kazandzhiev ( bg, Васил Иванов Казанджиев ; born September 10, 1934) is a Bulgarian composer of orchestral An orchestra (; ) is a large instrumental ensemble typical of classical music, which combines instruments from different families. Balkanton
Balkanton ( bg, Балкантон) was a state-owned record manufacturing company in Bulgaria founded in 1952. Many of the produced records were, or still are available in the countries of the former Soviet Bloc. Balkanton's plant in Sofia was equipped for all aspects of record manufacturing from recording the masters and pressing the vinyl records to printing the cover. Multi-channel sound recording was introduced in 1972 with equipment purchased from England. In 1982 Balkanton received its own digital recording equipment. By the mid-1980s annual LP production reached 9 million units. The company mainly produced LPs and from 1980 it started to manufacture cassettes. Being the only record company in Bulgaria during four decades, Balkanton accumulated a vast library of performances of folk, classical, Bulgarian and foreign popular music, theater, poetry and more. Zahari Zhandov
Zahari Zhandov ( bg, Захари Жандов) (1 June 1911 – 2 February 1998) was a Bulgarian film director, script writer and cinematographer. He was born on 1 June 1911 in the city of Rousse. At first he studied mathematics and then administrative sciences at Free University of Political and Economic Sciences, today UNWE in Sofia. His debut in film-making was with the a short documentary ''One Day in Sofia'' (''Edin den v Sofia'', 1946). Later he came to direct films like ''Shibil'' (1968), ''Birds Come Flying to Us'' (''Ptitzi dolitat'', 1971) and ''The Master of Boyana'' (''Boyanskiyat maystor'', 1981). Zhandov got a Golden palm nomination at the Cannes Film Festival in 1957 for the film ''Earth'' (''Zemya''). In 1969 he was a member of the jury at the 6th Moscow International Film Festival. Rangel Vulchanov
Rangel Valchanov ( bg, Рангел Вълчанов; 12 October 1928 – 30 September 2013) (also seen as Vulchanov) was a Bulgarian cinema actor and director. He finished theater directing at the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in 1953. He started working as an assistant director and subsequently as a director. Valchanov worked in Czechoslovakia between 1970 and 1972 where he continued to work on films. He became a member of the European film academy and a "People's artist" in the People's Republic of Bulgaria. He was voted as the best Bulgarian film director of the 20th century. His 1986 film ''Where Are You Going?'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section the 1986 Cannes Film Festival and was entered into the main competition at the 15th Moscow International Film Festival. Georgi Minchev ( bg, Георги Минчев) is a Bulgarian composer born on January 29, 1939, in Sofia, Bulgaria. Education Minchev is a graduate of the Bulgarian State Conservatoire in Prof. Marin Goleminov's composition class. Between 1968 and 1970 he majored under Rodion Shchedrin in Moscow and for several months he studied simultaneously under Aram Khachaturian. Marin Petrov Goleminov ( bg, Марин Петров Големинов; 28 September 1908 – 19 February 2000) was a Bulgarian composer, violinist, conductor and pedagogue. Life and career Goleminov was born in Kyustendil, Bulgaria; the son of an attorney, he studied law before switching to music. Having studied music at Sofia, Bulgaria, Paris, France, and Munich, Bavaria, Germany, in 1943 he was appointed to the faculty of the Bulgarian State Academy of Music in Sofia to teach orchestration, conducting and composition. From 1954 to 1956 he served as Rector of the Sofia Opera, and as Director of the same organization from 1965 to 1967.
