Vaso Katraki
Vaso Katraki ( el, Βάσω Κατράκη, 5 July 1914 – 27 December 1988) was a Greek painter and engraver. She was known for her passionate depictions of the sufferings of the Greek people during and after World War II. In 1967 she was exiled to a barren island by the military junta on the day that it took power. She started with wood engraving, then developed an original and very unusual technique of sandstone engraving. Life Vaso Leonardos was born on 5 July 1914 in Aitoliko, Aetolia-Acarnania, daughter of George Leonardos and Theodora Sarlis. She had four siblings. She recalled that her father was a gifted artist and her mother was well known as a weaver. The family home was a house by the sea. In 1936 she was admitted to the Athens School of Fine Arts where she studied painting under Konstantinos Parthenis and engraving under Giannis Kefallinos. Aitoliko
Aitoliko (Greek: Αιτωλικό) is a town and a former municipality in Aetolia-Acarnania, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Messolonghi, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 129.305 m2. It is located north of the Acheloos delta. The Greek National Road 5/ E55 passes through the municipal unit. It is located SW of Agrinion, about 20 km NW of Messolonghi, W of Nafpaktos and the Rio-Antirrio bridge and SE of Astakos. Until it became a part of Greece, it was known as Anatoliko (Ανατολικό), meaning eastern. Municipal Art Gallery Of Ioannina
The Municipal Art Gallery of Ioannina ( el, Δημοτική Πινακοθήκη Ιωαννίνων) is an art museum in Ioannina, Greece that has been open in its current building since 2000. The collection of over 500 items ranges from classical to modern paintings and sculptures. Location Since 2000 the gallery has been housed in the Pyrsinella Mansion at 1 Korai Street & 28 October Street in Ioannina. This is a neoclassical building dating to around 1890. Neoclassical elements include the lintels, balcony corbels and window frames. It was built by the engineer Vergoti for the bibliophile and art lover Basil Pyrsinella, who was mayor of the town for many years in the 1920s and 1930s. He left all his fixed and movable property to the municipality in 1958. History The gallery first opened in 1960 in the Mela building, and was the first regional municipal gallery in Greece.
