Variety Big Brother
Variety Big Brother (, literally Big Brother of Entertainment), also known as Big Brother's Return, was a television show hosted by Chang Fei, a.k.a. Fei Ge, which screened on Taiwanese channel China Television on Saturday evenings, Singapore Mediacorp Channel U on Sunday nights and Singapore Mediacorp Channel 8 on Friday nights. In 2007 the show was nominated for ''Best Entertainment Variety Programme'' at the 42nd Golden Bell Awards. Host Chang Fei is reportedly retiring as a host but would still be involved with the show. One of the co-hosts, ''Kang Kang'', left the show in 2004. The current co-hosts are and . The show ended its run on September 24, 2011. Chang Fei
Chang Fei ( ; born Chang Yan-ming (); 4 December 1951) is a Taiwanese singer and television personality. Early life He was born Chang Yan-ming in Taipei, Taiwan, on 4 December 1951, His eldest sister Chang Yan-qiong was a singer formerly known as Jenny Fei, who later became a buddhist nun known by the dharma name of Shi Heng Shu (), better known as Heng Shu (). He is the elder brother of ballad singer Fei Yu-ching. Chang married a South Korean woman Zhao Cui-hua in 1975 and they had two sons, Chang Shao-ching and Chang Shao-huai. Chang and Zhao divorced in 1990. Career Chang Fei is the host of the variety show ''Variety Big Brother'' (), and is also a singer who has recorded CDs. China Television
China Television Company, Ltd. (CTV; ) (Formerly called Taiwan Daytime TV (TDT) in 1969-1975) is a television broadcasting company based in Taipei, Taiwan. It was established on September 3, 1968, by the then-ruling Nationalist Party (KMT) of the Republic of China. The party owned the majority stake of the network. Trial broadcast started on October 9, 1969, and the channel formally started broadcasting on October 31 the same year. It was the first television channel to broadcast full colour television service to the whole island. Channel U (Singaporean TV Channel)
Channel U (marketed as U頻道, formerly named 优频道) is a Singaporean free-to-air television channel owned by Mediacorp. It was launched on 6 May 2001 by SPH MediaWorks. On 1 January 2005, the channel was transferred to Mediacorp after a merger between SPH MediaWorks and Mediacorp. Its logo is a turquoise sphere with a white letter U on its surface facing left. The channel's programming consists of Chinese-language series and shows produced locally and imported from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand as well as Korean-language series provided by KBS, MBC and SBS. Channel 8 (Singaporean TV Channel)
Channel 8 ( zh, 8頻道) is a Singaporean free-to-air television channel, airing in Mandarin Chinese. It was created by Television Singapura on 31 August 1963 with experimental broadcasts, before going official on 23 November that year. The channel's logo is a yellow number 8 on top of a red disc. History Channel 8 began its test transmissions on Saturday, 31 August 1963, Malaysia's national day. Its first day consisted of a Hokkien film, repeats of India's participation in the South East Asian Cultural Festival and Singapore Celebrates. Golden Bell Awards
The Golden Bell Awards () is an annual Taiwanese television and radio production award presented in October or November each year by the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development, a division of Taiwan's Ministry of Culture. It is the first radio and television production award in Chinese circulation, founded in 1965, and Taiwan's equivalent to the Emmy Awards. Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical theatre, musical performances, sketch comedy, magic (illusion), magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. It is normally introduced by a Master of Ceremonies, compère (master of ceremonies) or Television presenter, host. The variety format made its way from the Victorian era stage in Britain and America to radio and then television. Variety shows were a staple of English language television from the late 1940s into the 1980s. Ni Min Jan
Ni Min-jan (; 30 April 1946 – April 2005) was a famous well-rounded Taiwanese celebrity and entertainer. TV and movie star. Comedian and recording artist. Cross-talk(Xiangsheng) and play writer. In 1979, he teamed up with Zhang Kui, Zhang Fei, Ling Feng, and Xia Yunfei to form the "Wenna Five Rats" (named after the Wenna Five Tigers). The group was a sensation in the Taiwan show scene in the 1980s. Ni Min-jan was brilliant at imitating funny, well-known classic characters such as "Mr. Seven" and "Vice President Ni". The cause of his death was suicide by hanging in April 2005 at age 58 or 59. Ni had been suffering from depression, and was having financial and family problems, including having an affair with Xia Yi. Ni was friends with singer and television personality Chang Fei and singer Frankie Kao.
