Valérie Boyer
Valérie Boyer (born 11 June 1962) is a French politician serving as a Senator for Bouches-du-Rhône since 2020. A member of The Republicans (LR), she was previously elected to the National Assembly from 2007 until 2020. Boyer has also been a municipal councillor of Marseille since 2001. Early life Boyer was born on 11 June 1962 in Bourges. Her parents were born in Algeria and Tunis during French colonial occupation. They were pieds noirs who fled from Algeria in 1962. Political career First elected to the municipal council of Marseille in the 2001 election, she became a member of the National Assembly in 2007. In 2020, she was elected to the Senate. Boyer also served as a deputy (''adjointe'') to Mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin from 2008 to 2014 and held the mayorship of the 6th sector (11th and 12th arrondissements) of Marseille from 2014 to 2017. Senate (France)
The Senate (french: Sénat, ) is the upper house of the French Parliament, with the lower house being the National Assembly, the two houses constituting the legislature of France. The French Senate is made up of 348 senators (''sénateurs'' and ''sénatrices'') elected by part of the country's local councillors (in indirect elections), as well as by representatives of French citizens living abroad. Senators have six-year terms, with half of the seats up for election every three years. Municipal elections were held in France on 11 and 18 March 2001. These elections were marked by a setback for the left and a victory for the right one year before the 2002 presidential election. Laurent Timothée Marie Wauquiez (; born 12 April 1975) is a French politician who has presided over the Regional Council of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes since 2016. He is a member of The Republicans (LR), which he led from 2017 to 2019 following the resignation of Nicolas Sarkozy. The 2017 French presidential election was held on 23 April and 7 May 2017. As no candidate won a majority in the first round, a runoff was held between the top two candidates, Emmanuel Macron of En Marche!
