Valhalla Provincial Park
Valhalla Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. It was established on March 3, 1983, in the mountains above the Western shores of Slocan Lake, in the west Kootenays. The park consists of most of the Valhalla Ranges of the Selkirk Mountains. Geography It is 49,893 hectares in size with of shoreline along Slocan Lake. The park has limited methods of access, and is popular with climbers. Colleen McCrory's Valhalla Society advocated for the creation of the park. Gregorio Peak
Gregorio Peak is a mountain summit located in the Valhalla Ranges of the Selkirk Mountains in British Columbia, Canada. It is situated on the southwestern border of Valhalla Provincial Park, west of Gladsheim Peak, and west of Slocan and Slocan Lake. The mountain's name commemorates Michael Gregory, a resident of the Slocan area known to his friends as Gregorio, who drowned in a canoeing accident on Slocan Lake in 1971 returning from a climb of nearby Devils Couch. This peak's name was submitted by Anthony Eweson of New Denver for consideration, and it was officially adopted March 4, 1974, by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. Based on the Köppen climate classification, Gregorio Peak has a subarctic climate with cold, snowy winters, and mild summers. Temperatures can drop below −20 °C with wind chill factors below −30 °C. Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park
Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park is one of the oldest provincial parks in British Columbia, established in 1922. The park has an area of and is located in the Selkirk Mountains in the West Kootenays region of BC. The park has three glaciers (Kokanee, Caribou, and Woodbury) that feed over 30 alpine lakes which are the headwaters of many creeks. There are five access roads entering the park, which were developed as mining and forestry roads along the major drainages. The nearest towns are Nelson, Ainsworth, Kaslo and Slocan City (access is primarily from Nelson and Kaslo). Pierre Trudeau's youngest son, Michel, was killed in an avalanche in 1998 while skiing at the park. ''The Daily Gazette'' is an independent, family-owned daily newspaper published in Schenectady, New York. ''The Daily Gazette'' also owns and operates ''The Amsterdam Recorder'', ''The Gloversville Leader-Herald'' and ''Your Niskayuna''. History ''The Daily Gazette'' was founded as a weekly newspaper by the Marlette family in 1894. Colleen McCrory (1949/1950 – July 1, 2007) was a Canadian environmental activist. She was born in New Denver, British Columbia by the light of a Coleman lantern to Patrick and Mabel McCrory. She was raised in New Denver BC, with 8 brother's and sisters. She had three children, Sean, Rory, and Shea. Selkirk Mountains
The Selkirk Mountains are a mountain range spanning the northern portion of the Idaho Panhandle, eastern Washington, and southeastern British Columbia which are part of a larger grouping of mountains, the Columbia Mountains. They begin at Mica Peak and Krell Hill near Spokane and extend approximately 320 km north (200 miles) from the border to Kinbasket Lake, at the now-inundated location of the onetime fur company post Boat Encampment. The range is bounded on its west, northeast and at its northern extremity by the Columbia River, or the reservoir lakes now filling most of that river's course.
