Valentine Browne, 2nd Earl of Kenmare PC (I) (15 January 1788 – 31 October 1853), styled Viscount Castlerosse from 1801 to 1812, was Earl of Kenmare and Lord Lieutenant of Kerry. His or Her Majesty's Privy Council in Ireland, commonly called the Privy Council of Ireland, Irish Privy Council, or in earlier centuries the Irish Council, was the institution within the Dublin Castle administration which exercised formal executive power in conjunction with the chief governor of Ireland, who was viceroy of the British monarch. The council evolved in the Lordship of Ireland on the model of the Privy Council of England; as the English council advised the king in person, so the Irish council advised the viceroy, who in medieval times was a powerful Lord Deputy. In the early modern period the council gained more influence at the expense of the viceroy, but in the 18th century lost influence to the Parliament of Ireland. Earl Of Kenmare
The title of Earl of Kenmare was created in the Peerage of Ireland in 1801. It became extinct upon the death of the 7th Earl in 1952. All of the Earls bore the subsidiary titles of Viscount Castlerosse (1801), Viscount Kenmare (1798), and Baron Castlerosse (1798) in the Peerage of Ireland. The 2nd Earl was created Baron Kenmare, of Castlerosse in the County of Kerry in the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1841, but this title became extinct upon his death. His brother and successor, the third earl, was again created Baron Kenmare, of Castlerosse in the County of Kerry in the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 1856, and this title survived until the extinction of the earldom in 1952. Colonel Henry Arthur Herbert PC (1815 – 26 February 1866), was an Anglo-Irish politician in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Political career Herbert was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Kerry from 1847 until his death, and served as Chief Secretary for Ireland from 1857 to 1858. He was appointed Lord Lieutenant and Custos Rotulorum of Kerry in 1853. In Dublin, Herbert was a member of the Kildare Street Club. Family Herbert was the grandson of Henry Arthur Herbert (1756–1821), MP for Kerry from 1806 to 1813 and the son of Charles John Herbert (1785-1823) and Louisa Anne (née Middleton) (1796-1828), who was the daughter of Nathaniel Middleton. Henry's grandmother, Anne, was the daughter of a 'Jamaican of colour' called Elizabeth Augier. He was educated at Eton and graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1835. Baron Kenmare
Kenmare () is a small town in the south of County Kerry, Ireland. The name Kenmare is the anglicised form of ''Ceann Mara'', meaning "head of the sea", referring to the head of Kenmare Bay. It is also a townland and civil parish. Location Kenmare is located at the head of Kenmare Bay (where it reaches the farthest inland), sometimes called the Kenmare River, where the Roughty River (''An Ruachtach'') flows into the sea, and at the junction of the Iveragh Peninsula and the Beara Peninsula. It is also located near the MacGillycuddy's Reeks, Mangerton Mountain and Caha Mountains and is a popular hillwalking destination.
