Valdragone
Valdragone is a village (''curazia'') in central San Marino. It belongs to the castello of Borgo Maggiore. Geography The village is divided into two areas: Valdragone di Sopra (''Upper V.'') and Valdragone di Sotto (''Lower V.''). It is situated close at the east of Borgo Maggiore and also close to Cailungo and Domagnano. History The name of Valdragone appears for the first time in historical documents of 1253. The Monastero di Santa Chiara was built from 1969 to 1971. According to legend, the name "Valdragone" comes from stories of a dragon that appeared there. From Italian ''val'', apocopic form of ''valle'' ("valley") + ''dragone'' ("dragon"). Borgo Maggiore
Borgo Maggiore (; rgn, E Bórgh) is one of the 9 communes or ''castelli'' of San Marino. It lies at the foot of Monte Titano and has a population of 6,871 (May 2018), making it the second largest town of San Marino, after Dogana. Etymology From Italian ''borgo'' ("village, hamlet") + ''maggiore'' ("bigger, greater; major"). Geography It borders the San Marino municipalities Serravalle, Domagnano, Faetano, Fiorentino, San Marino City, and Acquaviva and the Italian municipality Verucchio. History The area was previously called ''Mercatale'' ("marketplace") and remains today the most important market town in San Marino. A cable car allows Monte Titano to be scaled up to the town of San Marino. Though it is not the most populated, the Market, as well as the connection to San Marino City, make it very much a city-like shopping hub. Cailungo
Cailungo is a village (''curazia'') in central San Marino. It belongs to the castle of Borgo Maggiore. Geography The village is located at the north of its castle seat, and its main road is ''via Ca' dei Lunghi''. It is divided in Cailungo di Sopra (''Upper C.'') and Cailungo di Sotto (''Lower C.''). Infrastructures Cailungo is the seat of the Sanmarinese State Hospital (''Ospedale di Stato di San Marino'') and the State Agency for Public Services of San Marino (''Azienda Autonoma di Stato per i Servizi Pubblici''). Domagnano
Domagnano is a municipality in San Marino. It has 3,565 inhabitants (May 2018) in an area of 6.62 km2. Geography It borders the San Marino municipalities Faetano, Borgo Maggiore, Serravalle and the Italian municipality Coriano. History Domagnano, previously known as Montelupo (mountain of wolves) after its coat of arms, was already colonized by Roman times and was first mentioned in c. 1300. It is located on Monte Titano and you can see the Adriatic Sea from here. The so-called Domagnano Treasure was found in the castle here in the late nineteenth century.
