Vaios Karagiannis
Vaios Karagiannis ( el, Βάιος Καραγιάννης; born 25 June 1968) is a former Greek professional footballer who played as a defender and current manager. Club career Karagiannis started from Enippea Iteas Karditsa and then went to A.O. Karditsa, where he played until the summer of 1990. That summer, AEK Athens acquired him as a completely unknown young footballer at the time. However, Dušan Bajević immediately gave opportunities to the young defender, placing him mainly on the left side of the defense. Finally he managed to establish himself in the team's starting eleven and slowly impressed from time to time, mainly with his defensive style, his fast pace, his very good jump and with "acrobatic" moves. He was a very reliable solution in all positions of the defense. He did very well against the Romário in the European Cup matches against Eindhoven in 1993. Karditsa (regional Unit)
Karditsa ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Καρδίτσας, ) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Thessaly. Its name is derived from its capital Karditsa, a small city of approximately 40,000 people. Geography Karditsa borders the regional units of Trikala to the north, Larissa to the east, Phthiotis to the southeast, Evrytania to the south, Aetolia-Acarnania to the southwest and Arta to the west. The main rivers are Megdovas in the south, the Pineios in the north, and the Enipeas in the east. The Plastiras Dam and Lake Plastiras, located to the west of the city of Karditsa, supply water to the plains and the central part of Greece. The Greek Football Cup ( el, Κύπελλο Ελλάδος Ποδοσφαίρου), commonly known as the Greek Cup or Kypello Elladas is a Greek football competition, run by the Hellenic Football Federation. The Greek Cup is the second most important domestic men's football event, after the championship of Super League. The organizing authority of the institution is the Hellenic Football Federation ( EPO). Since its inception in 1931 it has been held 80 times, in which cup winner emerged 79. Greek League Cup
The EPAE Cup, known as the Greek League Cup, a now defunct football competition, took place only once, in the year 1989–90 season. AEK Athens is the only winner of the League Cup, beating Panionios (3–3 and 3–1 on penalties), Aris (5–2), Levadiakos (0–0 and 1–0) and Olympiacos (3–2 in the final at the Athens Olympic Stadium, on 2 June 1990). The 2001–02 Greek Football Cup was the 60th edition of the Greek Football Cup. The 1996–97 Greek Football Cup was the 55th edition of the Greek Football Cup. Tournament details Totally 72 teams participated, 18 from Alpha Ethniki, 18 from Beta, and 36 from Gamma. It was held in 7 rounds, included final. After 8 years the phase of groups was suppressed, while the teams of Alpha Ethniki would enter in the competition in the Round of 32. The Round of 16 was very interesting. Olympiacos eliminated PAOK and Panathinaikos eliminated Iraklis. Also, Ionikos tipped OFI with 7 goals. For third time in the 4 last years AEK Athens and Panathinaikos were pondered over in the Final, held in Karaiskakis Stadium. AEK Athens won on the penalty shootout. The loss of Cup for Panathinaikos, in combination with their mediocre course in the championship, meant the unique time at the last 25 years that the club did not participate in any European competition. The 1995–96 Greek Football Cup was the 54th edition of the Greek Football Cup. Tournament details Totally 72 teams participated, 18 from Alpha Ethniki, 18 from Beta, and 36 from Gamma. It was held in 6 rounds, included final. AEK Athens won the cup after 13 years, shattering in the Final 7–1 Apollon Athens, that reached for first and only time a Greek Cup Final. It was also the last title, after 4 championships, that was achieved by AEK Athens, with Dušan Bajević as their coach. After the Group stage, AEK Athens eliminated in succession Iraklis, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and Athinaikos, while in a big surprise Apollon Athens qualified in semi-finals against PAOK, with 3–1 in Toumba Stadium.
