Vaganza
Vaganza was a theatrical art-rock-pop duo consisting of multi-instrumentalists David Longworth Wallingford and Quigley. Astronaut, Skunk, and Vaganza's origins Wallingford and Quigley began formally working on the Vaganza project in late-1991. The duo's launch followed the dissolution of their respective indie groups, Astronaut (band) and Skunk (band). The pair went into seclusion for roughly two years, completely reinventing themselves visually, and developing their sound—a significant departure, both in style and complexity, from their previous ventures—in a New Jersey-based home studio. Skunk (band)
Skunk was an American alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Maplewood, New Jersey. During the group's existence Skunk released two albums on Twin/Tone Records; 1989's ''Last American Virgin'' and 1991's ''Laid''. Skunk was the first band of now respected session guitarist Matt Sweeney, who after their demise went on to form New York City math rock quartet Chavez, and drummer Claude Coleman, Jr., best known for his decades long tenure playing with Ween. Also in the band for its entire history was bassist Matt Quigley, who later went on to form the art-pop group Vaganza. While not well known during the time of their existence, they were a favorite group of Billy Corgan of the multi-platinum 90s band Smashing Pumpkins, who in 2001 joined forces with Sweeney to form the band Zwan. Terry Tolkin
Terry Tolkin (September 10, 1959 – January 21, 2022) was an American music executive and music journalist. In the 1980s, Tolkin worked for several record labels, including Touch & Go Records, Rough Trade Records, and his own No.6 Records. From 1992 to 1996, he was an A&R representative for Elektra Records, where he signed alternative groups such as Stereolab and Afghan Whigs. Early career Tolkin originated from Kansas, moving to New York City in his youth. Tolkin has been credited for coining the term " alternative music" in 1979 while writing for the trade publication ''Rockpool''. Tolkin never disputed that claim, but it is undetermined whether he was the first to use the term. He also worked at the 99 Records store in New York City and as a booker at New York clubs such as Danceteria and CBGBs. Richard Auguste Morse
Richard Auguste Morse (born 1957) is a Puerto-Rican-born Haitian-American musician and hotel manager currently residing in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Morse manages the Hotel Oloffson, and is the founder of a ''mizik rasin'' band, RAM, named after his initials. Morse is married to the band's lead female vocalist, Lunise Morse, and has two children. Morse and his band are famous in Haiti for their political songs and performances critical of the Raoul Cédras military junta from 1991 to 1994. In the early 2000s, Morse has also criticized Jean-Bertrand Aristide and Fanmi Lavalas through his music. Morse is a United States citizen. Wilco is an American alternative rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed in 1994 by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo following singer Jay Farrar's departure. Wilco's lineup changed frequently during its first decade, with only singer Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt remaining from the original incarnation. Since early 2004, the lineup has been unchanged, consisting of Tweedy, Stirratt, guitarist Nels Cline, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, keyboard player Mikael Jorgensen, and drummer Glenn Kotche. The Jayhawks
The Jayhawks are an American alternative country and country rock band that emerged from the Twin Cities music scene in the mid-1980s. Led by vocalists/guitarists/songwriters Gary Louris and Mark Olson (musician), Mark Olson, their country rock sound was influential on many bands who played the Twin Cities circuit during the 1980s and 1990s, such as Uncle Tupelo, the Gear Daddies and the Honeydogs. Sidney Matthew Sweet (born October 6, 1964) is an American alternative rock/power pop singer-songwriter and musician who was part of the burgeoning music scene in Athens, Georgia, during the 1980s before gaining commercial success in the 1990s as a solo artist. Cocteau Twins was a Scottish rock band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by Robin Guthrie (guitars, drum machine) and Will Heggie (bass), adding Elizabeth Fraser (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist Simon Raymonde in 1983.
