Västerås HF
Västerås HF was a Swedish handball club based in Västerås. The club was founded in 1934. In 1942–43, the club made its debut in both the top division, Allsvenskan, and Svenska mästerskapet (SM), the tournament held to determine the Swedish champions. They finished fifth in the league, and reached the SM final, where they were defeated by Majornas IK. In the following season they reached the semifinals in SM, but were again defeated by Majornas IK. They reached the SM quarterfinals in 1945–46, 1946–47 and 1947–48. In 1947–48 they were also relegated from the top division and never returned. They reached the semifinals in SM in 1949–50, where they lost against Örebro SK. Västerås HF reached the SM quarterfinals in 1950–51 and 1951–52, after which the tournament was discontinued and the Swedish champions were determined by the league. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. Västerås ( , , ) is a city in central Sweden on the shore of Mälaren, Lake Mälaren in the province of Västmanland, west of Stockholm. Handbollsligan
Handbollsligan ''(literally, "The Handball league")'' is the highest league in the league system of Swedish handball, and comprises the top 14 Swedish handball teams. The first season began in 1931–32. The season ends with a playoff. Structure The season starts in September with a regular season comprising 14 teams meeting each other twice. A total of 26 rounds. The eight best teams after the regular season qualifies for the play-off. The 14th team is relegated, and the 11th, 12th and 13th team plays matches against the second, third and fourth from Allsvenskan to qualify for next season's Handbollsligan. The season ends with the finals in the beginning of May and the winning team qualifies directly to EHF European League and the losing team qualifies for the EHF European Cup. List Of Swedish Men's Handball Champions
The Swedish men's handball champions (Swedish: ''Svenska mästare i handboll för herrar'') have been determined by three different competitions. From 1931–32 until 1951–52, the title was decided by a straight knockout tournament known as ''Svenska mästerskapet'' ("the Swedish Championship"). After 1934–35, it was played parallel to the highest league, Allsvenskan. The tournament was contested by the winners of the ''Distriktsmästerskap'' ("Provincial Championships") until 1945–46. After that it was contested by all teams from the top division, all Provincial Champions and invited teams from lower leagues. Majornas IK
Majornas IK is a Swedish sport club from Gothenburg founded in 1916. The club is most famous for its handball team, who have been Swedish champions 7 times (1935, 1940, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945 and 1946). Until 1964 they had played all seasons but one in the top flight, but have not played there since. They currently play in Division 4, the 6th level. When the club started, it was mainly concentrated on association football, but the football section was discontinued in 2006 because of a lack of players. Irsta HF were a Swedish handball club based in Västerås. The club was founded in 1965. They were promoted to the top division, at the time known as Elitserien, in 1989. In their debut season in the top-flight, they finished fourth and qualified for the playoffs. They were eliminated in the semifinals by HK Drott. In the following season, they finished second in the league and defeated Ystads IF in the semifinals. They lost the final series against HK Drott.
