Pál Vásárhelyi
Pál Vásárhelyi (18 June 1938 – 14 September 2008) was a Hungarian competitive ice dancer. With Györgyi Korda, he was the 1964 Winter Universiade champion, the 1964 Blue Swords champion, and a seven-time Hungarian national champion. The duo competed at four World and six European Championships. They placed among the European top five in 1963 (Budapest, Hungary), 1964 (Grenoble, France), and 1965 (Moscow, Soviet Union). Vásárhelyi skated at Budapesti Lokomotív and Budapesti Spartacus. He retired from competition in 1965. Miklós Vásárhelyi
Miklós Vásárhelyi (9 October 1917 – 31 July 2001) was a Hungarian journalist and politician from Hungary. He was the press secretary in the government of Imre Nagy during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. After Hungary’s democratic transition in 1990, he became a member of the National Assembly. Life He was born October 9, 1917, in Fiume and studied at Rome University and at the law faculty of the University of Debrecen. He became a member of the Hungarian Communist Party in 1938. In 1942, he was sent into forced labor, like other Jews in Hungary. Later, he became a member of the Hungarian resistance against the German occupation. After the war, he worked for '' Szabadság'', the Communist party newspaper. He was shifted to Magyar Rádió and a propaganda magazine. After Imre Nagy became the prime minister, he appointed Vasárhelyi, who was a friend with his daughter, as the government press secretary. Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (; born ) is an American documentary filmmaker. She was the director, along with her husband, Jimmy Chin, for the film ''Free Solo'', which won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The film profiled Alex Honnold and his free solo climb of El Capitan in June 2017. Early life and education Vasarhelyi grew up in New York City, and is the daughter of Marina Vasarhelyi, a college administrator, and Miklós Vásárhelyi, a college professor. Her father is from Hungary and her mother is from Hong Kong. Vasarhelyi is a graduate of The Brearley School. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University. Career Vasarhelyi worked in 2004 as an assistant to director Mike Nichols on the film '' Closer'' and has worked extensively with Emmy-Award-winning cinematographer Scott Duncan documenting events such as the Dakar Rally.
