Várzea Do Carmo
Várzea do Carmo was the designation of one of the Central Zone of São Paulo, central areas of the city of São Paulo, adjacent to the Carmel Convent of São Paulo, Carmel Convent and frequently affected by the floods of the Tamanduateí River, formerly known as Piratininga. In 1821, Major Pedro Arbues Moreira submitted to the government a proposal to drain the Várzea do Carmo by opening a 40-meter-wide canal; the work was not carried out as it was too expensive. Many improvements were made to the site during the presidencies of Vicente Pires da Mota and João Teodoro Xavier, including the change in the course of the Tamanduateí River. The complete sanitation and recovery of Várzea do Carmo was a slow process. After the canalization of the river, which was completed in the 1920s, the name was disused and today the area is equivalent to Parque Dom Pedro II, Dom Pedro II Park. The Political Constitution of the Empire of Brazil ( pt, Constituição Política do Império do Brasil) commonly referred to as the Constitution of 1824, was Brazil's first constitution, issued on 25 March 1824 and revoked on 24 February 1891. In force during the period of the Empire of Brazil, it was issued at the emperor's request, that is, unilaterally imposed by the will of emperor Pedro I, who had ordered it from the Council of State. Pedro had dissolved the Constituent Assembly in 1823 and, through the Constitution of 1824, imposed his own political project on the country. The same Pedro later issued, in Portugal, the Constitutional Charter of 29 April 1826, inspired by the Brazilian model. The Palácio das Indústrias is a historical building in São Paulo, under the protection of the Council for the Defense of Historical, Archaeological, Artistic and Tourist Heritage (CONDEPHAAT). Brás is one of 96 districts in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Administratively part of the Southeast Zone of São Paulo, Brás is located immediately to the east of the historic downtown in the Subprefecture of Mooca. The district is an area of heavy industry with many factories and warehouses, known as a center of textile manufacturing.
