The Városi Sportcsarnok ( en, Municipal Sports Hall) is a multi-use indoor stadium in Békéscsaba, Hungary. The arena, which has an oval shape, very similar to the Colosseum, was opened in 1988, and has been modernized and renovated for the 2004 European Women's Handball Championship, to fulfil the strict criterium of the European Handball Federation. History The birth of the team dated back to 1973, when multi-sports club Békéscsabai Előre Spartacus took over the local team ''Kötöttárugyár'', and thus it became one of the departments of the club. The European Handball Federation (EHF) is the umbrella organisation for European handball. Founded on 17 November 1991, it is made of 50 member federations and two associated federations (England and Scotland), and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team.
