Václav Láska (politician)
Václav Láska (born 4 August 1974 in Rakovník.) is a Czech politician and head of the Senator 21 party, which he founded in 2017. He was elected to the Czech Senate during the 2020 election. Láska ran as independent with the support of Czech Pirate Party. Besides his political career he is a barrister, former police investigator and chairman of the board of Transparency International. Biography He worked in the ranks of the Police of the Czech Republic from the age of 18. He started as a rank-and-file police officer in the district department, later worked as an assistant investigator and then an investigator at the Regional Investigation Office, specializing in economic crime. In 1999, he joined the Office of Financial Crime and State Protection (ÚFKOS), where he led investigations related to IPB and the Harvard funds. Senate Of The Parliament Of The Czech Republic
The Senate (), literally "Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic", is the upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The seat of the Senate is Wallenstein Palace in Prague. Structure The Senate has 81 members, chosen in single-seat constituencies through the two-round system. If no candidate receives a majority of votes in the first round, there is a second round between the two highest-placed candidates. The term of office for Senators is six years, and elections are staggered so that a third of the seats are up for election every two years. A candidate for the Senate does not need to be on a political party's ticket (unlike in the Chamber of Deputies). The Senate has one President and four Vice-presidents. Transparency International e.V. (TI) is a German registered association founded in 1993 by former employees of the World Bank. Viktor Kožený (born 28 June 1963 in Prague, Czechoslovakia) is a fugitive financier. According to Bloomberg News, he graduated from Harvard in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in economics. However, he cannot be located in the Harvard Alumni directory as of 2015. Viktor Kožený is an Irish citizen imprisoned in the Bahamas in 2005 but released in 2007. He currently lives in a gated community in the Bahamas. Efforts to bring him to justice stem from both the Czech Republic and the USA. An international warrant has been issued for Kožený, who in the early 1990s ran one of the great scams of the post-Communist era. By the media he is often called "the pirate of Prague". Ivan Langer (born 1 January 1967 in Olomouc) is a former Czech politician. He has been a member of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) since 1991. From 1996 to 2010 he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies (in 1996-2006 a vice-chairman), serving as Minister of Informatics and Minister of the Interior.
