	Viridasius ''Viridasius'' is a monotypic genus of East African araneomorph spiders in the family Viridasiidae, containing the single species, ''Viridasius fasciatus''. It was first described by Eugène Simon in 1889, and has only been found in Madagascar. Description These spiders have a white carapace with black spots, and long black and white striped legs. Females can grow up to long, but the males are generally smaller. Taxonomy The male and female holotypes were originally identified as ''Phoneutria fasciata'' when they were first described by Lenz in 1886. In 1889, Eugène Simon described and identified a male as ''P. pulchripes'', placing it in the new genus ''Viridasius'' in the Ctenidae. In the same work, Simon described the genus '' Vulsor'', which he would later merge with this one. He renamed the single species ''Vulsor fasciatus'', retaining the species name Lenz gave in the original description. In 1967, Pekka T. 	Eugène Simon Eugène Louis Simon (; 30 April 1848 – 17 November 1924) was a French naturalist who worked particularly on insects and spiders, but also on birds and plants. He is by far the most prolific spider taxonomist in history, describing over 4,000 species. Work on spiders His most significant work was ''Histoire Naturelle des Araignées'' (1892–1903), an encyclopedic treatment of the spider genera of the world. It was published in two volumes of more than 1000 pages each, and the same number of drawings by Simon. Working at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, it took Simon 11 years to complete, while working at the same time on devising a taxonomic scheme that embraced the known taxa. 	Viridasius ''Viridasius'' is a monotypic genus of East African araneomorph spiders in the family Viridasiidae, containing the single species, ''Viridasius fasciatus''. It was first described by Eugène Simon in 1889, and has only been found in Madagascar. Description These spiders have a white carapace with black spots, and long black and white striped legs. Females can grow up to long, but the males are generally smaller. Taxonomy The male and female holotypes were originally identified as ''Phoneutria fasciata'' when they were first described by Lenz in 1886. In 1889, Eugène Simon described and identified a male as ''P. pulchripes'', placing it in the new genus ''Viridasius'' in the Ctenidae. In the same work, Simon described the genus '' Vulsor'', which he would later merge with this one. He renamed the single species ''Vulsor fasciatus'', retaining the species name Lenz gave in the original description. In 1967, Pekka T. 	Eugène Simon Eugène Louis Simon (; 30 April 1848 – 17 November 1924) was a French naturalist who worked particularly on insects and spiders, but also on birds and plants. He is by far the most prolific spider taxonomist in history, describing over 4,000 species. Work on spiders His most significant work was ''Histoire Naturelle des Araignées'' (1892–1903), an encyclopedic treatment of the spider genera of the world. It was published in two volumes of more than 1000 pages each, and the same number of drawings by Simon. Working at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, it took Simon 11 years to complete, while working at the same time on devising a taxonomic scheme that embraced the known taxa. Simon described a total of 4,650 species, and as of 2013 about 3,790 species are still considered valid.
