Ed Voytek
Edward Louis Voytek (April 4, 1935 – January 16, 2016) was a National Football League (NFL) guard for the Washington Redskins. He played college football at Purdue University and was drafted in the 22nd round of the 1957 NFL Draft. Voytek died on January 16, 2016, in Independence, Missouri. Early and personal life Voytek was born on April 4, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio to parents John and Helen Voytek. He graduated from Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School, and then attended Purdue University, where he played football. After his playing career, he went back to Purdue in order to pursue further education and received his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1962. Voytek, or Wojciech Roman Pawel Jerzy Szendzikowski was born in Warsaw, Poland on 15 January 1925 and died in London, United Kingdom on 7 August 2014. He was a leading production designer, for British stage and television, for which he also directed, wrote and produced. Career Son of Wladyslaw, a doctor, and Maria Szendzikowski, Wojciech was born and spent his childhood and adolescence in Warsaw. As a teenage partisan during World War 2, he was awarded the Polish Cross of Valour in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Sustaining a shoulder wound, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war in Germany. His wartime experience left its mark on the wry humour which infused his later work, a Brechtian political irony focused on class. After liberation, Voytek walked to Italy, where he joined the exiled Polish army and formed a theatre group.
