Voyager Point is a small suburb, in South Western Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Voyager Point is located 25 kilometres (35 min) south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Liverpool. The only adjacent suburbs are Sandy Point, Holsworthy and Pleasure Point. Milperra, Panania and East Hills are located on the opposite bank of the Georges River. In the , Voyager Point recorded a population of 1668 people. History Voyager Point takes its name from the commemorative park which was established following the loss of HMAS ''Voyager'' with the loss of 82 lives after the destroyer collided with the aircraft carrier HMAS ''Melbourne'' in February 1964. Sandy Point is a suburb in south-western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia 28 km south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. Sandy Point is a geographical formation on the southern bank of the Georges River, east of Deadmans Creek in south-west Sydney. Sandy Point is located in the Sutherland Shire, New South Wales. Holsworthy Barracks is an Australian Army military barracks, located in the Heathcote National Park in Holsworthy approximately from the central business district, in south-western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The barracks is part of the Holsworthy military reserve, which is training area and artillery range for the Australian Army, established in the 1880s and been in active use since World War I. Second Fleet (Australia)
The Second Fleet was a convoy of six ships carrying settlers, convicts and supplies to Sydney Cove, Australia in 1789. It followed the First Fleet which established European settlement in Australia in the previous year. The Second Fleet has achieved a historical notoriety for the poor conditions aboard the vessels, and for cruelty and mistreatment of its convicts. Of the 1006 convicts transported aboard the Fleet, one quarter died during the voyage and around 40 per cent were dead within six months of arrival in Australia. The captain and some crew members of one vessel were charged with offences against the convicts, but acquitted after a short trial. The ships were supposed to travel together to Australia, arriving in Sydney Cove in 1789. The Lucas Watermills Archaeological Sites are two heritage-listed archaeological sites in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The sites comprise the remnants of two convict-era watermills, the Brisbane Mill on the Williams Creek at Creekwood Reserve, Voyager Point, New South Wales, Voyager Point and the Woronora Mill on the Woronora River at Barden Ridge, New South Wales, Barden Ridge. HMAS Melbourne (R21)
HMAS ''Melbourne'' (R21) was a ''Majestic''-class light aircraft carrier operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) from 1955 until 1982, and was the third and final conventional aircraft carrier to serve in the RAN. ''Melbourne'' was the only Commonwealth naval vessel to sink two friendly warships in peacetime collisions. ''Melbourne'' was laid down for the Royal Navy as the lead ship of the ''Majestic'' class in April 1943, and was launched as HMS ''Majestic'' (R77) in February 1945.
