Voyager Point is a suburb, in South Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Voyager Point is located 25 kilometres (35 min) south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Liverpool. The only adjacent suburbs are Sandy Point, Holsworthy and Pleasure Point. Milperra, Panania and East Hills are located on the opposite bank of the Georges River. HMAS Voyager (D04)
HMAS ''Voyager'' was a of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), that was lost in a collision in 1964. Constructed between 1949 and 1957, ''Voyager'' was the first ship of her class to enter Australian service, and the first all-welded ship to be built in Australia. During her career, ''Voyager'' was deployed to the Far East Strategic Reserve on six occasions, but never fired a shot in anger. During the night of 10 February 1964, ''Voyager'' and the aircraft carrier collided off Jervis Bay, when the destroyer passed in front of the carrier during post-refit sea trials. ''Voyager'' was cut in two by the collision, sinking with the loss of 82 of the 314 people aboard. This was the largest loss of Australian military personnel in peacetime, and the subsequent investigations resulted in the holding of two Royal Commissions—the only time in Australian history this has occurred. Holsworthy Barracks
Holsworthy military base is an Australian Army military barracks, located in the Heathcote National Park in Holsworthy approximately from the central business district, in south-western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The barracks is part of the Holsworthy military reserve, which is training area and artillery range for the Australian Army, established in the 1880s and been in active use since World War I. Following World War II, it became a major base for the permanent component of the Australian Army in New South Wales. Holsworthy Military Airport is also located in the reserve. Second Fleet (Australia)
The Second Fleet was a convoy of six ships carrying settlers, convicts and supplies to Sydney Cove, Australia in 1790. It followed the First Fleet which established European settlement in Australia on 26 January 1788. The Second Fleet has achieved a historical notoriety for the poor conditions aboard the vessels, and for cruelty and mistreatment of its convicts. Of the 1,006 convicts transported aboard the Fleet, one quarter died during the voyage and around 40 per cent were dead within six months of arrival in Australia. The captain and some crew members of one vessel were charged with offences against the convicts, but acquitted after a short trial. The ships were supposed to travel together to Australia, arriving in Sydney Cove in 1789. Heathcote Road
Heathcote Road is a major arterial road in the south of Sydney, Australia. It plays a major role in the servicing of traffic travelling between the Illawarra and Western Sydney, and its eastern end is a constituent part of the A6 route. Route Heathcote Road commences at the intersection of Newbridge Road in Moorebank, just east of Liverpool, and heads in a southeasterly direction as a four-lane, single carriageway road, meeting M5 South Western Motorway shortly afterwards. Henry Lawson Drive is an urban road linking Lansdowne and Peakhurst in the south-western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The Lucas Watermills Archaeological Sites are two heritage-listed archaeological sites in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
