Votoms
is a Japanese military science fiction mecha anime series produced by Nippon Sunrise, created and directed by Ryosuke Takahashi and featuring mechanical designs by Kunio Okawara. Following directly in the footsteps of Takahashi's previous series, ''Fang of the Sun Dougram'', ''VOTOMS'' continued the trend towards hard science in the mecha anime subgenre. The series was supplemented by numerous original video animation releases, and also inspired a number of spin-off works whose media ranges from serialized light novels to video games. The TV anime was originally licensed by the now-defunct Central Park Media who released the series on DVD and VHS. Currently, it is licensed by Maiden Japan, a unit of Section23 Films, who also released all OVAs other than ''Armor Hunter Mellowlink''. Sōji Yoshikawa
is a Japanese animator, scriptwriter, director of anime, and stage director. He has worked under the aliases , , and . Career A fan of Osamu Tezuka's works, when Yoshikawa was a sophomore in high school, he saw a " Mushi Production's first batch of animators wanted" news article and applied for the job, which led him to enter the anime industry. He was planning to go to art college, but was invited to join Mushi Pro, so he quit high school and joined the company. He participated as an animator for the first ''Astro Boy'' series. In 1967, he participated in the founding of Art Fresh with Gisaburō Sugii and Osamu Dezaki. was a monthly Japanese children's manga magazine published by Kodansha. It was first published on October 15, 1981, and ceased publication in 2007. A web version of the magazine has been published on Pixiv Comic since the end of July 2017. is a 75-episode anime television series, created by Ryosuke Takahashi and Sunrise (company), Sunrise, and aired in Japan from October 23, 1981 to March 25, 1983 on TV Tokyo. Mecha
In science fiction, or mechs are giant robots or machines controlled by people, typically depicted as humanoid walking vehicles. The term was first used in Japanese (language), Japanese after shortening the English loanword or , but the meaning in Japanese is more inclusive, and or 'giant robot' is the narrower term. Kunio Okawara
is a mechanical designer in the Japanese anime industry. Okawara was the first in the industry to be specifically credited as a mechanical designer. He designed mecha for the ''Gundam'' and ''Brave Series'' franchises, as well as those of numerous Super Robot and Real Robot shows. He was born and currently lives in Inagi, Tokyo, where he works out of a studio in his home. Biography Formative years Okawara attended Tokyo Zokei University as a student in its graphic design department, moving to its textile design department one year later. was a Japanese screenwriter who first began his career during the "revolutionary era" of Japanese animation on ''Mach GoGoGo'' (''Speed Racer''), ''Science Ninja Team Gatchaman'' (''Battle of the Planets/G-Force''), and ''Yatterman''.
