Votez Bougon
''Votez Bougon'' is a Canadian comedy film, directed by Jean-François Pouliot and released in 2016. Based on the 2000s television sitcom '' Les Bougon'', the film is a political satire in which Paul Bougon ( Rémy Girard) enters politics, starting his own political party and catching a populist wave that results in his being elected as the new Premier of Quebec. All of the actors from the television series reprised their original roles, with the exception that the role of adopted daughter Mao was recast. Although press coverage of the film noted some similarities to the presidential campaign of Donald Trump, the film was more directly inspired by Quebec populist gadfly . The film was a shortlisted finalist for the Public Prize, an audience-voted fan award, at the 19th Quebec Cinema Awards. Jean-François Pouliot
Jean-François Pouliot (born 1957) is a Canadian film director from Quebec. He was born in Montreal and studied at Concordia University. He worked as an assistant cameraman, while also writing and directing short animated films for the National Film Board. In 1982, Pouliot joined the advertising firm Cossette Communication Marketing, where he twice won the Grand prix du Mondial de publicité francophone, a French language advertising award. In 1988, he began directing television ads. Pouliot directed a number of episodes of the CBC Television series ''Emily of New Moon''. 19th Quebec Cinema Awards
The 19th Quebec Cinema Awards ceremony was held on 4 June 2017, hosted by actors Guylaine Tremblay and Édith Cochrane, to recognize talent and achievement in the Cinema of Quebec. Prix Iris Public Prize
The Public Prize (french: Prix Public is an annual film award, presented by Québec Cinéma as part of its annual Prix Iris, to honour the most popular film of the year among film audiences in Quebec. First presented in 1999 as part of the Prix Jutra, the award was known as the Billet d'or ("Golden Ticket"), and was presented to the film that had been the most successful at the box office. When the awards program was relaunched as the Prix Iris, the ''Billet d'or'' was relaunched as the Prix Public, which now sees the five top-grossing films of the year submitted to a public vote to award the film that was most liked by audiences.
