	Anoeschka Von Meck Anoeschka von Meck (born 1967) is a Namibian author who writes in the Afrikaans language. Biography Von Meck is of German descent, and was born in Mariental, and lived for a while in Henties Bay. In 1983, von Meck moved to the United States to finish high school, graduating from Lynchburg Christian Academy in Virginia. She then studied at Saddleback College before moving to San Francisco to study marine biology and comparative religions. Whilst in the United States, von Meck won the Golden Poet Award, given by the International Poetry Society. Von Meck returned to Africa and studied archaeology and religion in the University of Cape Town and Egyptology at Stellenbosch University. She then worked as a matron in a children's home and then as a journalist. She was a full-time reporter for ''Die Republikein''. Family Baron Karl von Meck came from an old Baltic-German noble family originally from Silesia. His father was major Otto Adam von Meck, a customs officer in Riga. His mother was Wilhelmine Hafferberg, a daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm and Catharine Constanze Nott, who in her second marriage was the wife of Carl Ludwig von Veichtner, a son of composer Franz Adam Veichtner. In 1844 Karl von Meck graduated from the St. Petersburg Institute of Communications and joined the Moscow-Warsaw road upgrade project as a service road engineer. 	Nadezhda Von Meck Nadezhda Filaretovna von Meck (russian: Надежда Филаретовна фон Мекк; 13 January 1894) was a Russian businesswoman who became an influential patron of the arts, especially music. She is best known today for her artistic relationship with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, supporting him financially for thirteen years, so that he could devote himself full-time to composition, while stipulating that they were never to meet. Tchaikovsky dedicated his Symphony No. 4 in F minor to her. She also gave financial support to several other musicians, including Nikolai Rubinstein and Claude Debussy. 	Nikolai Von Meck Nikolai Karlovich von Meck (russian: Никола́й Ка́рлович фон Мекк; 28 April 1863 – 24 May 1929) was a Russian Empire engineer and entrepreneur involved in the development of the Russian Empire during the first part of the twentieth century. He was put on trial as part of the Shakhty Trial and executed in 1929. Life Nikolai was the sixth son of Karl Otto Georg von Meck, who came from an old Baltic-German noble family originally from Silesia, and Nadezhda von Meck out of eleven children in total. His father Karl was among the Russia Empire's first railroad-builders after Russia's defeat in the Crimean War motivated the tsar to modernize. Karl died suddenly in 1876. Nadezhda inherited a substantial fortune and became a patron of the arts.
