Volvo Open
The Volvo Open was an invitational golf tournament played in Sweden in 1970 and 1971. It was the first major international golf tournament played in Sweden. The 1970 event was played on two courses; the first 36 holes at the par 71 course at Delsjö Golf Club near Gothenburg on Wednesday and Thursday and the final 36 holes at the par 72 course at Drottningholm Golf Club near Stockholm on Saturday and Sunday. The participation of Jack Nicklaus, visiting Sweden for the second year in a row after an exhibition there in 1969, were the big attraction and he finished second, one stroke behind winner Jean Garaïalde. Other world well-known players taking part were Peter Thomson and Lanny Wadkins. 1973 European Tour
The 1973 European Tour was a series of golf tournaments that comprised the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) tournament circuit. It is officially recognised as the second season of the PGA European Tour. Historically, the PGA's Order of Merit only included tournaments in Great Britain and Ireland, but in 1970 events in continental Europe were included for the first time. The circuit and organisation evolved further over the following years, adopting the name ''PGA European Golf Tour'' in 1979. The season was made up of 21 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and some non-counting tournaments that later became known as "Approved Special Events". Christy O'Connor Snr
Patrick Christopher "Christy" O'Connor (21 December 1924 – 14 May 2016) was an Irish professional golfer. He was one of the leading golfers on the British and Irish circuit from the mid-1950s. O'Connor won over 20 important British and Irish tournaments and finished in the top 10 in the Open Championship on 10 occasions. Later he had considerable success in seniors events, twice winning the World Senior Championship. Scandinavian Enterprise Open
The Scandinavian Enterprise Open was a golf tournament on the European Tour that was played in Sweden until 1990, when it had a prize fund of £400,000, which was mid-range for the tour at that time. In 1991, the tournament was merged with fellow Sweden-based European Tour event, the PLM Open, with the resultant tournament being called the Scandinavian Masters. The European Tour (currently known as the DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons), legally the PGA European Tour is the leading men's professional golf tour in Europe. Hubert Myatt Green (December 28, 1946 – June 19, 2018) was an American professional golfer who won 29 professional golf tournaments, including two major championships: the 1977 U.S. Open and the 1985 PGA Championship. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2007. Early life Green was born in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended and played golf for Shades Valley High School in Birmingham and then Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, Florida. While at FSU, he won the Southern Amateur in 1966 on his home course at the Country Club of Birmingham. In 1967, he became the Alabama Amateur golf champion, a title he successfully defended in 1968.
