Volvo Ocean 65 Dongfeng Race Team
Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team (formerly Dongfeng Race Team) is a Volvo Ocean 65 yacht. Under Chinese sponsorship she finished third in the 2014–15 Volvo Ocean Race skippered by Charles Caudrelier and then went on to win the 2017-2018 edition, which started in Alicante, Spain, and ended in The Hague, in the Netherlands. In 2019 the Portuguese Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team took ownership of the yacht. Volvo Ocean 65
The Volvo Ocean 65 is a class of monohull racing yachts. It is the successor to the Volvo Open 70 yacht used in past editions of the Volvo Ocean Race. It was announced at a conference in Lorient, France, during a stopover in the 2011–12 Volvo Ocean Race. The yacht was used for the 2014–2015 and the 2017–2018 editions and is planned to be used for the 2023 edition. The 2014–2015 Volvo Ocean Race was the first one-design event. Design The yacht was designed, by Farr Yacht Design, to be a cheaper and safer alternative to the expensive and fragile Volvo Open 70. After many safety concerns in the 2011–12 Volvo Ocean Race, many began doubting the safety of the Volvo Open 70, due to many designers opting for fast designs while failing to meet safety requirements. Kevin Escoffier is a French professional sailor born on 4 April 1980 in Saint-Malo, France and a resident of Lorient. He is an offshore sailor who has won the 2018 Volvo Ocean Race as a bowman onboard DongFen. and competed in the 2020–2021 Vendée Globe aboard PRB. Franck Cammas (born 22 December 1972 in Aix-en-Provence) is a French yachtsman. He has lived in Brittany since his victory in the Challenge Espoir Crédit Agricole in 1994. After completing a two-year maths course for the ‘Grandes écoles’, as well as a piano academy, Franck Cammas finally opted for a career in sailing. In 1997, at the age of 24, he won the Solitaire du Figaro and a year later helmed his first trimaran christened ''Groupama''. Pascal Bidegorry (born 15 January 1968, in Bayonne) is a French sailor. Life He has raced across the Atlantic Ocean over 30 times and has set records in many classes. Stu Bannatyne (born 20 April 1971) is a New Zealand sailor who has competed in eight Volvo Ocean Races. He has won four of those eight. Born in Christchurch, Bannatyne won the Volvo Ocean Race (then known as the Whitbread Round the World Race) in his first attempt, when he sailed on ''NZ Endeavour'' during the 1993–94 Whitbread Round the World Race.
