Volodyne, Donetsk Oblast
Volodyne () is a village in Staromlynivka rural hromada, Volnovakha Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. The distance from Volodyne to the raion (district) center Volnovakha is approximately . History The village was founded as a Jewish agricultural colony. The area of the modern village also includes another formerly separate Jewish agricultural colony, the village Udachne. Before 2020, the village was located in Velyka Novosilka Raion. Since 17 July 2020, the village has been part of Staromlynivka rural hromada in Volnovakha Raion. On 31 August 2022, during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Denis Pushilin, head of the self-proclaimed, Russian-controlled Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), claimed that Volodyne had been captured by DPR and Russian forces along with numerous other settlements in the area. Oblasts Of Ukraine
An oblast ( uk, о́бласть; ) in Ukraine, often called a region or province, is the main type of first-level administrative division of the country. Ukraine's territory is divided into 24 oblasts, as well as one autonomous republic, Crimea, and two cities with special status, Kyiv and Sevastopol. Denis Vladimirovich Pushilin (russian: Дени́с Влади́мирович Пуши́лин, ; uk, Денис Володимирович Пушилін, Denys Volodymyrovych Pushylin; born 9 May 1981) is a Russian and Ukrainian politician who is serving as the acting head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) from 4 October, 2022. Russian Language In Ukraine
Russian is the most common first language in the Donbas and Crimea regions of Ukraine and the city of Kharkiv, and the predominant language in large cities in the eastern and southern portions of the country. The usage and status of the language is the subject of political disputes. 2023 Ukrainian Counteroffensive
In early June 2023, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine launched a counteroffensive against Russian forces occupying its territory with a long-term goal of breaching the frontlines. Efforts were made in many directions, primarily in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, among others. Planning for a major Ukrainian counteroffensive had begun as early as February 2023, with the original intention being to launch it in the spring. Raions of Ukraine (often translated as "districts"; Ukrainian: ра́йон, tr. ''raion''; plural: райо́ни, tr. ''raiony'') are the second level of administrative division in Ukraine, below the oblast.
