Volly De Faut
Voltaire "Volly" De Faut (March 14, 1904 – May 29, 1973) was an American jazz reed player. De Faut was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States, but his family moved to Chicago when he was six. He played with Sig Meyers in the early 1920s and then spent time in the New Orleans Rhythm Kings before joining Art Kassel. His first recordings were made with Muggsy Spanier in 1924; he recorded with Jelly Roll Morton the following year. Later in the 1920s he played with Merritt Brunies and Jean Goldkette, and played for a time in Detroit. During the early 1920s, he also played with The Bucktown Five. Around the end of the decade De Faut held several positions in theater orchestras in Chicago, and also worked as a studio musician. He started his own dog breeding business but abandoned it to join the military and play in bands there. Paul Volley
Paul William Volley (born 2 November 1971 in Beckenham, Kent) is an English former rugby union player. As an open-side flanker, he played for London Wasps for 16 years. He joined as a 16-year-old from Chinnor. Volley was first called up to the senior England squad by Clive Woodward for the 2000 England rugby union tour of South Africa, and then again for the 2003 England rugby union tour of Australasia. However he was ultimately never capped at this level. He was also selected for England A on numerous occasions. He won Domestic and European competitions with London Wasps. This included helping them win the Anglo-Welsh Cup in 1999 and 2000; he was a replacement in the 1999 final but started in 2000. He also played in the 2002–03 Premiership Final and the 2003–04 Premiership Final, both of which were won by Wasps. Volley (association Football)
A volley is an air-borne strike in association football, where a player's foot meets and directs the ball in an angled direction before it has time to reach the ground. A volley can be extremely hard to aim and requires good foot-eye coordination and timing. In general, the volley requires that the player strike the ball with the front of his foot, with the toes pointing downward, ankle locked, and the knee lifted. It is important for most applications to keep the knee high over the ball when struck, and lean slightly forward to keep the shot downward. Doing so imparts a great deal of topspin and prevents the ball from flying wildly over the goal if done correctly. Volley (tennis)
A volley in tennis is a shot in which the ball is struck before it bounces on the ground. Generally a player hits a volley while standing near the net, although it can be executed farther back, in the middle of the tennis court or even near the baseline. The word derives from M. French ''volée'' meaning flight. The primary objective of the volley is to go on the offensive and cut the amount of time for the opponent to react. Another advantage is that a player eliminates any possibility of a bad bounce from an uneven surface such as on some grass and clay courts. Also, if near the net, a volleyer has a wider choice of angles to hit into the opponent's court. However, quick reflexes and hand–eye coordination are required to execute this shot. The primary means of countering a volley are the passing shot and the lob. Trentino Volley is a professional Italian volleyball team based in Trento, in northern Italy. It plays in the Italian Volleyball League without interruption since 2000. It has won four times the Italian Volleyball League, the Italian Cup, the Italian Super Cup, three consecutive times the CEV Champions League and a record four consecutive times the FIVB Men's Club World Volleyball Championship. Volley Fire
Volley fire, as a military tactic, is (in its simplest form) the concept of having soldiers shoot in the same direction en masse. In practice, it often consists of having a line of soldiers all discharge their weapons simultaneously at the enemy forces on command, known as "firing a volley", followed by more lines of soldiers repeating the same maneuver in turns. This is usually to compensate for the inaccuracy, slow rate of fire (as many early ranged weapons took a long time and much effort to reload), limited effective range and stopping power of individual weapons, which often requires a massed saturation attack to be effective. The volley fire, specifically the musketry volley technique (also known as the countermarch), requires lines of soldiers to step to the front, fire on command and then march back into a column to reload, while the next row repeats the same process.
