Volfied
is an arcade video game designed by Fukio Mitsuji and released by Taito in 1989. It is a successor to '' Qix'', with extra features and a futuristic science fiction aesthetic, rather than ''Qix''s abstract geometry style; the player pilots a small spaceship named "Monotros" instead of a Stix, and the enemies come in the form of various aliens. Plot Taking place in another galaxy, a space pilot is returning to his home world of Volfied, only to discover that it is under attack by an unknown alien force. The few remaining Volfied inhabitants are in an underground location of the planet and signal the pilot to their aid. The pilot flies to Volfied using his ship's defensive weapons in order to eliminate the alien threat and save his people. Gameplay The overall gameplay is identical to that of ''Qix''. Fukio Mitsuji
, also known as "MTJ", was a Japanese game designer and artist. Mitsuji is best known for his work at Taito, where he created popular arcade platform game ''Bubble Bobble'' and its follow-up ''Rainbow Islands''. He later ran a game design school, and worked freelance creating games such as ''Magical Puzzle Popils'' for Game Gear. According to reports from Japanese Bubble Bobble forums, Mitsuji passed away on the 11th of December, 2008, at the age of 48. The cause was attributed to cardiopulmonary arrest caused by kidney problems. Empire Interactive was a British video game developer and Video game publisher, publisher based in London. Founded in 1987 by Ian Higgins and Simon Jeffrey, it was acquired by Silverstar Holdings in 2006 and went out of business in 2009. ''Taito Legends'' is a compilation of 29 arcade games released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows. The games were originally developed by Taito. The European release was published by Empire Interactive, who had licensed the games from Taito and developed the compilation. Although they did not get official credit for it in the American versions, Sega published the North American and South American releases. Extra features include interviews with some of the game designers, original sales flyers, and arcade cabinet art. Taito
is a Japanese company that specializes in video games, toys, arcade cabinets and game centers, based in Shinjuku, Tokyo. The company was founded by Michael Kogan in 1953 as the importing vodka, vending machines and jukeboxes into Japan. It began production of video games in 1973. In 2005, Taito was purchased by Square Enix, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary by 2006. The TurboGrafx-16, known as the outside North America, is a home video game console designed by Hudson Soft and sold by NEC Home Electronics. ''Xonix'' is a video game written for MS-DOS compatible operating systems by Ilan Raab and Dani Katz. It is similar in concept to Taito's 1982 arcade video game ''Qix''.
