''Volcano'' ( is, Eldfjall) is a 2011 Icelandic drama film directed by Rúnar Rúnarsson. The film was selected as the Icelandic entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, but it did not make the final shortlist. At the 2012 Edda Awards, the film was nominated in 14 categories, winning in 5. Benedikt Erlingsson
Benedikt Erlingsson (born 31 May 1969) is an Icelandic actor and theater director, theater and film director. He graduated from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 1994 and has been with the National Theater of Iceland for most of his career. He has directed two feature-length films, both of which have won the Nordic Council Film Prize. Iceland has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1981. The first film to be sent to AMPAS by Iceland was ''Land and Sons'' which was released in Iceland in 1980. Since then, Iceland has sent in a film every year. Only one Icelandic film, '' Börn náttúrunnar'' (''Children of Nature''), directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson, has received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. However, a second, '' Djúpið'' (''The Deep''), made the nine-film shortlist in 2012, and a third, '' Síðasti bærinn'' (''The Last Farm'') by Rúnar Rúnarsson, was also nominated for Best Live Action Short in 2006. This is a list of submissions to the 84th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. Nine shortlisted contenders were revealed a week before the announcement of the Oscar nominations. Þorsteinn Bachmann
Þorsteinn Bachmann (born 25 October 1965) is an Icelandic actor. He is known for his role as Móri in ''Life in a Fishbowl''. In 2015 he won an Edda Award for that same role. Early life Þorsteinn grew up in the Fossvogur area of Reykjavík, Iceland before moving to Breiðholt when he was 10 years old. He did not do well in school in the early years. Looking back, he remembers that he was barely able to read or write before changing schools from Fossvogur to the one in Breiðholt. Career Þorsteinn graduated from the Icelandic Drama School in 1991. Since graduation he has worked with theatre groups in Reykjavík and Akureyri and was president of the latter for a few years.
